... @ 1:50 I got jumpy... could barely watch. A moment of balancing there. To accomplish something and gain notoriety? So what does he get out of this?
I’m not sure what the point is.
Rumor is he was paid 6 figures. So $$, though not that much.So what does he get out of this?

Free soloing is the term you are looking for - when a climber does so with no protection. Free climbing is when a climber uses only their body for upward movement, but still has protection.French climber Alain Robert was the first to climb the 101-story building in 2004 using safety gear.
Free climbing, whether it's on rock or a building, is an entirely different and extreme "mental" ballgame!
Kudos to Alex and I'm sure it's more of a personal accomplishment to him than notoriety.
He's already climbed all the rocksAmazing feats of endurance, but pretty repetitious type of climbing, not at all like climbing on rocks.

LOL true. For a pro climber that is like 10 year's salary

Makes more sense as to why he’d go through all the training, planning, preparation and execution.Rumor is he was paid 6 figures. So $$, though not that much.
I doubt he needed training, serious climbers are climbing constantly.Makes more sense as to why he’d go through all the training, planning, preparation and execution.
I imagine he needed a permit from the government that included some sort of hold harmless agreement in case he fell.
And imagine having to placate his parents who were undoubtedly horrified at the idea.
