I use this when I'm doing fine yacht restorations. Results in a real crisp line and minimal tearing of the under layer.

It is so cool watching this thing take shape. I have to say that I'm impressed that you can do the body work and all. When it's done you get to stand back, look at the bike and know that it is your creation. You didn't have anything sent out or done for you etc. Very satisfying.

BTW, sorry about the minor spill you had. It's probably not going to be the last! That's racin' I guess. But she's coming out of this better than before, so great job!

ya, ive got some good fineline tape from the color shop. lines were good... but it still lifted some paint off :(

ya, thats gotta go... u can see the line from the fineline tape and the extra from painters blue tape next to it. lame, very lame.

i think the silver paint is just rly soft, u can rub a lot off it w/ a gloves finger and thats really distressing. thankfully, the red isnt nearly as soft and takes take just fine, even after only 12hrs of drying. so i just retaped the red and am touching up the silver. of course, w/ any extra work, mistakes are bound to happen :(
 
so this is all the final color and touch-ups before clear goes on. im gonna give the touch-ups until this evening to cure, clear my test piece (which i also touched-up), then if everything is good... ill clear the bodywork.

rem how i said im using a pro 2K clear... that little spraycan w/ the jar under it is whats enabling me to do that w/out a compressor. the guy at the color shop recommended it over using the U-POL clear and it was the same price as 3 cans of clear. its going to be much much harder than spraybomb clear, so it should last much longer.

u can see on the tail where the masking tape lifted a tiny bit of red :(. well.. its not nearly as visible as on the silver and maybe the clear w/ fix that a bit. and hey, its a race bike and will still look great from 15ft. either way, im done w/ masking, such a PITA!!

unfortunately..... i went down on Sunday. after picking up some time from fixing rear end grip issues, i started the push the front a little harder. one practice session into diagnosing and fixing the front end problems, i lost the front tire braking for turn 1. im not sure how i managed to crash while going straight, but i did. most likely, it was due to a combination of some ham-fisted braking and improper damping settings. rly, 100% my fault since im responsible for both.

all in all, im pissed at myself for making a stupid mistake. but this is racing and within a month, the bike will look like ^^ that again.... albeit with new bodywork, subframe, and clip-ons.

Hope you were ok, but in the aesthetic department, since you're be repainting the bike again, might I suggest leaving the front fender black. :nerd

ya i didnt de-magnetize it from the ground before going out. i made it through a 20lap race on Saturday no issues... then bam. my fastest crash to date and not a single injury and didnt even knick my helmet, i couldnt be more lucky in that dept.

ive thought about black accents. at the very least, ill be doing black striping over the lines.
 
I just KNEW that scheme would look great. Don't get too down on yourself about the off; you are dialing in a brand new bike that you are not used to. It's going to take a while. Sounds like you are improving every time out so you should feel good about that. Keep on going man. We are pullin for you. :thumbup
 
Nice job! The first shot showed no seat pad, and I was going "wait a minute, slip & slide and ouch ". ;) I like a real seat on my bikes, btw. An old boney butt will cause this affliction.
