All things machinist

CrazyCooter, Mike knows what I mean......., as would any other machinists.

^ not quite gun drilling but just as scary! :laughing

Do you interpolate the start hole?
I bored. I have a half I need to hold on the large bore 9/16 deep. Then 2 inch of 1 inch 14. I roughed out everything out so I could do the critical shit at the end. I had a center in the end and did not want to puch out the bore on roughing.

Hey machinist peeps. I saw something new on social media. There was a company advertising to buy up all the old data from machinists part programs. NC files, CAD/CAM files all of it. Obviously they want it to train AI on. I don't know what they would offer. After 10 years programming at this company I currently have 102 GB of data in my Jobs folder. For $5k/MB I might consider it :laughing

(In reality I left them a comment telling them to make their own data. fuckers.)

AI will complete the task more effectively and at a lower cost. assuming you didn’t use AI.
Yeah, sure. Robots make good welds too. When a qualified, experienced welder sets them up and keeps an eye on them.

When AI can hand a complete part to customers I will worry about my job. Until then it’s just a tool to make my life easier, someday.

Taps?

I just visited PH Horn facility in Franklin TN(training).
Impressive organization.
We got to see their process of making boring bars & cutting inserts.
Way cool.
