Any BARF Audiophiles?

5.1 surround sound. $500-$750

Yamaha RX V375 5.1 Channel 3D A/V Home Theater Receiver is what I have now, 70 watts per channel.

Wow I can't believe I got it SEVEN years ago

For that money I'd keep what you have until it dies.

If you are happy with the overall sound of course, but if you have a "so so" subwoofer that kind of money will indeed buy you a major upgrade in that area.

Thanks!

I have an excellent Axiom Audit subwoofer. It's more than powerful enough for the size room it's in. I think it's a 10"

----

Side note, I have to turn it on, and then the sound works from say, Roku, but the volume or sound settings won't do anything. Then I turn it off and on, and I get that HDMI error for a second and then everything works fine. 99% of the time I need to turn it off and on before it works properly.

Any ideas?

I'd try a factory reset to see if that helps but write down any settings you manually changed after running the microphone based EQ.

If the issue persists after a factory reset, and it was not an issue when the receiver was newer, it is telling you that it might be dying.

Axiom Audio's current 10" is a 28hz sub which is ok, but if you own your own home and don't have to worry about neighbors a true 20hz sub makes a world of difference and can be had for your budget from SVS who offers free return shipping if you don't notice much difference.

But if you don't watch action movies a 28hz sub is just fine.

Thanks a lot!

I do own my own home but the wall the TV is on is against my neighbor's wall so I try not to crank it. I suppose I could move it because subs are omni-directional

I played with the PANASONIC Vierra link settings and defaulted it to Theatre seems to have fixed it :)

I also turned off HDMI control on the Yamaha

Thanks for all your help!

I guess I'll just take the lack of response to mean they're trash :laughing

Yeah, the older Sansui, Pioneer, Marantz, etc., big cabinet speakers don't command much.

Now the '70's vintage Sansui amps / receivers are commanding some pretty hefty prices. The 8080DB's (85W/Ch, Dolby, triple tone controls, Frequency response: 10 Hz to 30 kHz) are seeing prices from ~$600 to $1500ish.

The 9090DB, 125W/Ch, Dolby, with stuff like crossover/defeat switches in the tone controls, supports 2 phono's, tape decks, aux, mic input, A, B, and C speakers or combos AB or AC. Just checked on flea-bay prices on the high end range from $2800 to over $4000 w/box. Crazy!

Good to know, because they went to the dump months ago lol.

Ha, ha... before this "Airline" radio makes that long lonesome journey I thought I''d check first. Price is right... FREE :thumbup
It's going to need a good home as "it" needs a complete resto. Haven't plugged it in 'cause the old cloth wrapped cord is showing wire in spots. The wood cabinet doesn't have any cracks, nor the speaker grill. It does come with new speaker cloth though. Hey that's a plus right?!!! No knobs, but all the shafts turn and the dial/station indicators rotate when knobs is turned.
Pickup in Pleasanton.

Guys I have an older onkyo unit I recently put in the garage for use since it's been collecting dust for a few years. Long story short I had it at max gain because I just couldn't hear the music at a lower volume (garage is fairly large plus tool use). Anyways, after a few hours loud pop and no more sound. I pulled it apart and tested all the fuses with an ohm meter and they seem good.

That's about the extent of my av receiver diagnosis, is there something else I can easily check or does it being belong in the trash? I assume with it's age and model it's not worth taking to a repair facility.

Display still works if it matters

Any albums you guys used to compare equipment?

I've been using "Plastic Beach" by Gorillas, It's got such a varied amount of types of music and pretty well mastered.

"White people" By Handsome boy modeling school is another one I use but maybe not as good. Love the album though so it's always a fun listen through.

Gorrilaz is a good choice, don't know the other album.
