Architecture

Hey Budman, found a house for ya.
The Kip House in Berkeley, designed by Donald Olsen, is for sale at $1.425M. The carport would probably need to be opened up for 2 cars and enclosed for that new AM.
Your house would sell for their asking price I'm sure.

Kip House

Oh, sorry man. Forgot about "Prince". Hell of a view :cool though.

That's the least looking like an Eichler Eichcler house I've ever seen.
We still have a TON of those homes here in Northern Humboldt.
They were built by the Pierson Company and are called Peirson homes.
Cheaply built and cheaply bought.
I live in one that has been extensively remodeled and added on to. 2650 sq. ft. now,
instead of the 800 sq. ft. that it probably started out at.

I prefer a mid century modern single roof line home with large expanses of glass and walls that open completely to the outdoors.
Lately we’ve been eyeing barndomeniums. It’s all about the interior space.

That's not my sentiment when I have to paint it! ;)

same! i also love brutalist architecture.
I hate it. I see it as deliberately hostile to it’s surroundings and antithetical to life and just plain ugly. “Exist here. I dare you.”

IMHO, a proper building looks like it grew out of it’s environment. City architecture should be an ornate and tasteful celebration of human creativity and craftsmanship. I think we all lose when beauty is left out of the equation. I prefer Art Nouveau.

Art Deco kinda splits the difference between brutalist and Art Nouveau to my eye. I enjoy it as well.

Hard to argue with this google ai overview.

Great architecture is defined by the classic triad of firmness (sound structural engineering), commodity (functional utility for its users), and delight (poetic beauty that uplifts the human spirit). Beyond these fundamentals, exceptional design responds seamlessly to its local context, respects environmental sustainability, and adapts gracefully across generations.

One reason I like southwest/Navajo adobe architecture and Greek island architecture so much is that they seem to spring directly from the earth. Arches, thick walls, plain and simple colors. All of it brings me peace and tranquility.
