Artificial grass lawn

I'll get the brand my dad installed at my sisters. Was around $2.80 sqft not installed if I recall and that was middle of the road variety. VERY nice stuff! Look like just cut lawn 365. They have dogs so about once a month he hoses it down with vinegar to help with the pee smell.

Also, when installing you are supposed to add a very thin layer of sand rubber on top that works its way into the grass and keeps it upright.

edit:

like mentioned above. there is the good stuff and the already cut rolls Costco sells. You want the kind that has a thick base to it. The varieties my sister showed mean when she was choosing all looked amazing. Her's looks perfect a year after its been installed.

.. and the brand?

Do keep in mind when the sun is out your grass area will be 20+ degrees hotter than the actual temp outside.

BTW it looks like shit.

I had a putting green in my backyard with a longer "grass" fringe around the outside of it that I could chip off off....

The longer grass around the outside looked extremely real, drained well, and I had two Greyhounds that ran around and played on it, pissed on it, lounged in the sun on it (and the green) and it held up like a champ...looked new even years after the install....super easy to maintain, basically a leaf blower and a hose is all you need...

So for those that say it looks like shit, I say you haven't seen a very good product.

I say you are programmed for a plastic lifestyle.

OP, the local/regional company that does Field Turf is called Heavenly Greens. Again, it is wickedly expensive, but it involves a lot more than just throwing down some astroturf and throwing sand on it. They extract the existing ground cover, grade the yard, put down gopher wire, do multiple layers of base (large rock/smaller), then the turf, then a proprietary infill made of silica and freeze dried rubber pellets. Drains fantastic, great for pets and great for kids to play on without any burns. One of the advantages over the cheaper alternatives is better drainage. Just gets hot on a really hot day.

I think it helps if you use artificial intelligence.

FYI..."Forgotten Labor Costs?"

My brother got some in his front and backyard back in 2004. Putting green and all. He got the expensive stuff and he has no shade in either yard. It still looks rather good. The only problem he encountered was with the install. The company "forgot" to build the removal of his sprinkler system into the total cost and tried to get over on him. He said screw you or GTFO. They tried to soak him for around $1500 extra in labor costs to do so. So keep this aspect in mind. Sorry I don't know the name of the brand or who did the install up here in Santa Rosa.

A turf high school field is cool. One at your home sucks.

They are really good, though. My company use to do the geotech engineering for the turf fields.

If I wanted a low maintenance yard I would go with native, drought resistant plants.

This thread cracks me up. I grew up in the south, where you have to mow your lawn 2-3x a week just to keep it from taking over. I thought people only installed fake grass in the desert. I will never forget the first time I saw it. I had just moved to Albuquerque, and on the drive to work, I saw a whole yard that was astro-turfed bright green. It stood out so much from the rest of the desert landscape that I was sure you could see it from outer space. :wtf Then, a few houses down, on the same street, there was an entire yard paved over, then one that was entirely filled with pea gravel. I was gawking like a tourist.

As a kid it was my job to mow my step dads acre of back yard, and help him put irrigation system down. What's your point?

:laughing Yeah, people like to forget that we basically live in a desert.

Shh! :laughing

Recently, brand? Did you inspect the one that has been there for a while?

I'm not sure of the brand, but it was a longer turf like the one pictured. It had been installed ~24 months earlier.

Just an FYI, the grass in that picture is NOT the high end stuff. The high end stuff looks a lot more realistic than that.

OP, mine has been in almost 5 years now and it still looks like new. I'm just about to have some more infill added where it's been lost in the high traffic areas. If you PM me an email address, I'll email you a picture of my backyard so you can see what it looks like.

Ask me again after they redo the soccer fields in Golden Gate Park with this stuff.
