This is cool. Thanks to everyone involved in moving this forward, especially Bud!!

Two'ish questions...

1. Will there be any ban and spam improvements? What are the methods available for banning users and spammers in vbulletin vs xenforo?

2. What time does barf go down and is it a pre-programmed migration where you set a start time and kick back watching the spinning wheel, or is it all super manual?

I can answer #1.

Xenforo has a manual approval process like VB. We had turned that on 5 years or so ago and I have been checking every person out prior to admittance. That (as I am sure you are aware) cut WAY back on spammers making it through the door. I value your and my experience here and not getting spammed is bery goot 4 me and cut down Mod work as well.

That box is checked and I just have to learn where to find the new users to let them in. :laughing

#2 is on Insyder.

Yeah it's surprising how few spammers make it through, seems like maybe one a year if that? I think VB is such that you can't ban by MAC address, but can XF do that? Obviously IP, user, email, but some IP's are dynamic and it's easy to change email/user, so it's nice to ban a piece of hardware if you can, even if it can be spoofed or changed.

I'm trying to time it now as a "best time." There's a part where it just "sits and spins" for hours. Good time to just hit the button and go to bed. ;) I'm doing a practice run right now. Two hours in and she's running just fine taking up a healthy (but not toxic) amount of CPU/RAM/DISC on the server. So I won't push my luck tweaking for speed, and will stick with stability.

He will have to manually type all the historical posts in.
Budman did give me this. :dunno

Well, my weekend is planned out.

What are YOU doing this weekend?

On another forum that didn't use the upgraded search, I found it was not very good. I mean, I guess they sell an upgrade for a reason.

They've since upgraded, so its hard to recall the main issues (other that it was bad enough I didn't bother much with it).

But I think a big issue was that they didn't index the posts, just the titles and meta-data (user, date, mostly).

Even then I think I tried to pull up all of my old posts on that forum, and it struggled. I do know I searched for stuff I knew existed, and could not find it.
I've done a little research on the "search upgrade" vs the built in search. The built in search is just a normal MySQL based search capacity, which for whatever reason isn't good. The upgraded search requires ElasticSearch on your host, which should be something I can stand up later.

With the BARF upgrade in process, I'll have more time to think about the Roman empire.

I plan to spend some time in Barcelona and unpack my riding gear so I can go ride!.

So let me get this straight.

BARF is going through is second most important transformation since the beginning, and you're leaving the country.

There's a deeper message hidden in here. Somewhere. Somewhere deep. And hidden.

The MotoGP race is in Barcelona... online so in town.
I will have my tool kit ready to help. Unfortunately there are no tools in the kit. Just cash. :p
