BARF Militia

Indeed. :)

It's a strange, addicting phenomenon to own a firearm. I got my glock and prior to that, thought I'd never want another. Now I've got like 7. WTF!

Rookie. :hand

:twofinger

Yeah, when the addiction hits, it's bad. Luckily I have enough other hobbies to get my attention, but when I get on a streak it gets kinda nutty. But all my cash has been going to cigars and trying to get back on the bikes, so no new guns for me for awhile.

And the wait begins...... Rock River emailed me today - my .223 upper has shipped, will be here on the 3rd of March! :thumbup

My 1k rounds of Prvi comes in this Thursday. Hopefully I can make it to the range Tuesday night.....:party

Just like Christmas all over again.

If the wife doesn't crucify me for this one Ill order another upper when it arrives. Wait - does she need to know?

Uhmeebuh the n00b, at the range tonight, said he was thinking next about getting either a Buckmark or a big-ass revolver.

Of course, I said "Get both!"

He made some dumb-ass remark about not wanting another expensive hobby, and I just thought to myself, "Too late dude. You're enjoying this too much."

Nothing wrong with that. Some of my favorite guns were picked solely based on looks.

First things first - I *really* like my XD. Even the indomitable Zefflyn enjoyed the feel of the gun. Unfortunately, I couldn't hit the side of a barn if I wanted to so I'll need a lot of practice to improve. But I did learn a lot tonight -- both about the XD and about how I can be a better shot.

At first I thought the pistol was shooting low and to the left. But as I improved my form, I began to realize that *I* was shooting low and to the left. Likely because of my grip: left index finger on the trigger guard which help recoil control but also draws the barrel left if I squeeze to hard or don't pay attention. As I got about 100 rounds in I started playing with my shoulder/arm positioning and BOY did it make a difference! All of a sudden, I was able to hit roughly where I was aiming and was reasonably consistent. Of course my groupings were nowhere near as tight as Zefflyns, but he's been shooting much longer than I have...

I had Zeff watch me to see if I flinch and, so far, I don't. BUT I could see how I could easily develop one.

Zeff was nice enough to keep me company on my maiden voyage and let me try out his pistols. I was stoked to try out his Buckmark and boy was I impressed! I'll start saving up for a Buckmark once I get a little closer to the end of my 30 day waiting period...

I do look fairly large next to the small magazine. :laughing

Zeff is fairly modest but he's a pretty good shot. Check it out - 3rd shot bullseye!

Has anyone shot the Wolf Ammo Any problems? Heard anything on other forums?

http://ammoman.com/webstore_9mm.htm

$169 for 1000rds seems like a great deal...

I used to get them $2 a box of 20 from Texas. Put plenty through my SK without trouble.

They're fine. Clean your guns regularly and you won't have a problem. Besides, anything shooting a 7.62 should be a "tough" rifle, like the SKS.

Hah, $1k for an AR? GL! :)

I don't think any of my ARs cost more than $800, many can be built for much less.

As for the Wolf, some guns run it just fine, some don't. Personally I don't use it but I know a few who do without problems. Of course that's just in the AR, my AKs run wolf no problem.

I built mine for less than 650.

What's your build?

Mine was:

Lauer Lower - $175 (during frenzy, overpaid $60)
Stag Build Kit - $633
- Buttstock, Grip, Upper, 10 RD Mag
Aimpoint Comp M4 - $650
(10) 10/30 PMAGS - $150
(2) 10/20 Bushmaster - $40
Sling - $30

Total: $1650~

And honestly, thats a cheap setup from what I've learned lately.

The thing about Wolf is the case is made out of steel instead of brass (except for Golden Wolf or something like that) and steel ammo doesn't slide in and out of a steel chamber very slickly. So they paint the case with a funky polymer coating to make it slicker. But if a lot of the polymer melts off the case and dries inside your chamber, it can make your chamber sticky or too small for the ammo to fit.

The grain of salt is: I don't know if that happens with all Wolf ammo, or just certain rounds (that might get hotter in the chamber and melt more of the polymer) or just with tight chambers. YMMV.

When I loaned Uhmeebuh the Buckmark, he spent a few moments in his bay, then asked AM I DOING THIS RIGHT? I forgot to take a picture so I had to stage it later: he had the round in the magazine backwards.

Honest mistake, of course, particularly with a new style of magazine. I still occasionally try to put a magazine into a gun backwards when trying out new stuff.

'twas a good night of shooting. :thumbup

I guess I was talking about the brass cased wolf 9mm. Not .223.

Personally, I'll run Wolf in .223 for plinking. Just make sure to clean the gun after.
