No one has mentioned the heat. The Weave in August can be brutal.
An evaporative cooling vest can save your ass from becoming bacon.
You will get hot. Going HWY 1 keeps thing chill but inland escalation can be kind of brutal.

If your wearing textile its Easy to stay cool with the right stuff.
Leather not quite as easy but please check it out.

True winger.

VC be an easier trip for a newbie in my mind plus time to keep working it.

However both is more awesome.

There's a multitude of "easy" ways to get to Virginia City that don't involve highly technical roads. :thumbup

So much to do!

Are you planning on going to Weaverville or Virgiinia City, or both?
Hwy 80 or 88 takes you to Virginia City.

Oh shit! that was planned for Virginia City. That Weaverville trip seems way harder! I definitely have to consider that one more.

The weaverville also happens to be a 5 Hour trip which I do no think I could do in one day because I am super uncomfortable riding at night!

There's no need to ride at night to Weaverville plus the area is crawling with forest rats (deer). Leave on a Friday morning.

That said, if you want a fun time you can always drive there and hang out with us. Other people have in the past. It will let you meet many of the people you will see in VC.

Hey Neighbor!

Hi PrinceMeerkat,

I live in nearby Walnut Creek so we could get together for a ride sometime. I know the roads in the Eastbay well and could put together a good outing. I'm an experienced rider :afm199, fully vax'd, and happy to ride at your comfortable pace. We could meet, discuss the day's ride, and stop a few times for breathers and sharing.

One of the best tips we can offer you is "ride your own ride", meaning ride within your comfort zone, at your pace, with others or solo. In group rides, seek out others who will ride at your tempo. And look out for each other! :ride

I suggest you check out some of the resources on this forum, especially

Also, if you haven't already, I strongly recommend a CMSP skills course. A day of class and practice gets you ahead of the game. Try parking lot and braking exercises too.

David Hough Proficient Motorcycling book is another great resource.

I'll PM you my cell number so we can talk and text more easily. :thumbup

I have completed the Basic rider course here at the Harley Dealership in Livermore Las Positas College. I just finished getting my license as of yesterday as well. The course instructor told me to comeback at 2k miles for the intermediate training. IDK if he was begin serious or not about that. Yep I have been reading and watching alot of youtube videos about do and donts about group rides because i believe safety comes first and I will also be looking to take the ASM course so that I get some emergency medical/safety training under my belt in case of shitty situations that I hope not to ever be in. :)

I’m tempted to sign up for HoHo. Probably throw a bike in the truck as leg is too fubarred for a long ride :cry

Prince Meercat I’ll keep you posted if this plan hardens up I can truck you and the bike up or partway up and drop you off at the intersection of 20 and 16 on the way home.

Sounds Like a plan but I am determined to make it even if I have to go slow as fuck and take my time; I want to do it for my own accomplishment. IDK if that is weird to say. but I feel like if I truck it up there that's half of the fun and excitement to be able to not only enjoy the group ride when you are there but to share your experience of riding up there as well.

I completely understand. :)
