So, 3/27 came and passed. How'd everyone do over the past 12 weeks?
I started at 179. I'm around 189-190 right now. Not quite 1lb/week but I feel pretty good and still fit in my pants.
I'm walk around between 194 and 197 these days (6'1" tall), and have been for some time now. That is a GIHUGEOUS victory for me, as over the past 4 years I've ranged from 160 - 260 lbs. Some of that I can blame on spine problems keeping me from being active. Most of that I can blame on my lack of making good decisions in terms of nutrition. Either way, it was some serious yo-yo action. My weight fluctuation goes all the way back to college, varying by about 30lbs for a long time (though seldom in the right direction).
Since the spine fusion May 2014 I've been gradually getting better, these last 6 months especially have seen a marked improvement in pain level/management and ability to train consistently. I've also educated myself lots in terms of nutrition, supplements, resting and training.
The results are speaking for themselves. My weight has held steady for several months (that's totally new for me), I'm getting really close to having that 6-pack dialed in (August is still my target timeline), to the point where I no longer have visible love handles (just skin/pudge covering my lower abs that I'm hoping will also burn off over time as I stick with the plan).
I've set personal bests for a number of lifts, and I'm getting stronger. Best of all, training and eating healthy has become a way of life I've embraced and truly love.
I also need to thank Joe Rogan, even though he has no clue how much he has helped me. I incorporated the voice of Joe Rogan into my workouts when I started doing 5x5s several months ago. I watch quite a bit of UFC/MMA, so when I get to my 4th set on the 5x5s I always hear Joe Rogan's voice in my head talking about a fighter "going into the deep waters", and seeing "what a fighter is made of". And as I start that 4th or 5th set, I used to start with a "fuck you Joe Rogan" as I heard his voice in my head, questioning whether I had what it took to go into the championship rounds, or deep waters (rounds 4 and 5 in the UFC). It's great motivation, though I admit Joe's commentary has changed. Now when I walk up to do a 4th or 5th set, dripping sweat and dog tired, I hear Joe talking still, but this time he's going on about "this guy has proven he has what it takes to go the distance, but he has taken a beating today and he's looking exhausted as the bell rings". That's still followed by a "fuck you Joe Rogan" through my teeth as I lift my first rep.
Whatever it takes, make it work for you, and keep up the great work everyone!
