BARFTRON HOMEBASE

Can't get into it. Even if I had the best gaming PC evar, it still looks like awful 8bit graphics.

I can totally see myself getting into trying to build the sickest house/castle of all time. But not with those graphics. Not to mention that I don't kill spiders with some pick ax...I use fire. And I've seen some people burn their whole damn world down playing with fire in that game.

I never played the game either, until my cousin sold me on it about two weeks ago, "Just download the demo!"

Hooked. $20 later.

:laughing - I blew away my little cousin and his friends with the Redstone circuitry in that game...now that alone makes the game worth it for me...

It was the equivalent of Homo sapien meeting up with a pack of Homo erectus... :laughing "Here - with this we can create circuits - electricity, machines....."

Them: :wtf:wtf:wtf

They never got into it really beside the occasional mineart railway or something, which tends to get boring/old quickly; while redstone circuitry seems to have nearly limitless possibilites.....

I built a passcode/passlock door in his world....(XOR gate if I remember correctly...?) you have to flip a certain combo of switches in order for his door to open - all enclosed in Obsidian, no way to break in quickly to cheat. We all got a kick out of it, until his buddy 'camped' and watched him enter the combo....:laughing Now, the challenge has been laid to make a circuit where he has a button in his house that closes the door, resetting the switches after the combo is entered....

To the other end of the spectrum...... (This is what made it worth it to me....I actually realized/understood finally how exactly computers work, via logic gates, albeit very simplified and dumbed down for the game, it planted a seed of research, discovery, and an insatiable desire to tinker with these circuits and it makes me want to order one of those kiddie sets where you can program your own mini-computer...:laughing)

A real, working, functioning, programmable fucking computer.....:hail

Nope. Got too much to handle already. BF3:Armored Kill is maybe a month away. Hitman, Medal of Honor, and Blops all within a few months. Plus I'm still totally digging BF3 and DayZ....when it actually works and I get in a daytime server.

My roommate is really into DayZ and just rented his own server. Find 'US 1584' run by 'Bobbeh' (there are two US 1584 for some moronic reason). If you're looking to team up with a crew, start asking around in that server, they have a private voice chat server, but will likely converse with you in the game, they like to play as a group. Mention me ('whack' in game) in case that helps.

Crap. I've got no mic hooked up to my PC. Guess I could plug in my old PX21 headset that I used to use for the 360. Or I can just type shit out and hope people read "Please don't shoot whack sent me" in the text on the screen.

Really don't want to make a long run to Stary without some kind of support. I can imagine going that whole way only to get picked off by a sniper only to spawn back with nothing on the coast.

Was just in that server. Did some looting in Cherno and the server kicked me suddenly for some reason. Battle eye client message or something.

if you are having trouble with battleye, right click on arma 2 in steam and reinstall battleye. if you get problems connecting due to incorrect version server rejected, verify arma 2 and arma 2 oa

Ugh. Not exactly a selling point for PC gaming. Launchers, clients, updates, expensive hardware requirements...versus console which just pretty much just works with little drama.

+1 I'd join if it weren't a requirement to upgrade video card + power supply....:thumbdown

You can probably play it with what you got. Just gotta dumb the graphics down so much that it's about equivilant to Grand Theft Auto on the PS2.

I still haven't upgraded my shit so I'm in that boat right now.

greener gonna try out your friends server tonight. what voip software you guys use?

oh and i go by the name 'damnitsteve'

Oh I go by the name I have used on Counterstrike for like ever...Sheriff Rosco P Coltrane.

The guys are using Mumble for voice comms, but I'll have to get permission to let you guys on that, lemme see what I can do. Or, we can run our own voice coms.
As for the battle eye kicks, its a known problem with BE right now, it will be fixed on this server as soon as BE comes through.
I'll be on the lookout for Roscoe and steve :thumbup

OK, comms are go, here's the info:

Client: Mumble http://mumble.sourceforge.net/

Server addy: aids.mumble.com
Port: 4309
Pass: Ruffled

There are players of various ages, some are mildly annoying, but all are willing to help a new player, just ask and keep asking :)
Its best to have a second screen or laptop/pad next to you with the map on display, I recommend this one: http://dayzdb.com/map#4.099.115
I also recommend reading a guide for new players, there's some frustrating stuff at first, its a tough game, but therein lies the addiction! Here are some links:
http://www.reddit.com/r/dayz/comments/trdzs/collection_of_dayz_tips_threads_for_your/
I also recommend using DayZ Commander to keep your stuff updated and to browse for servers. http://www.dayzcommander.com/

Hm couldn't get mumble to work, maybe they need to register my username/nickname? I'd go by damnitsteve.

daydb map is real good. i play the game using steam overlay so i shift tab into that map all the time

Yeah that map is friggin awesome. Pretty much no reason to pick up a map in the actual game.

Got super worried earlier. Was snooping around the medical tents at the Cherno hospital (still looking for a rifle with some optics), and heard another player's footsteps in one of the other tents. Emptied my shotgun earlier on zombies so all I was packing was a makarov with not even a full clip left. Shagged ass out of there out of fear of getting shot dead and losing my Alice pack with the little amount of loot I've gathered so far.

On this life I've got 71 zombie kills and zero murders so far.

having an in game map is still super useful. use daydb map to find sweet loot spot, shift click on in game map same location, game shows you where to go to get there. its like built in gps

ORLY? I thought you actually needed the GPS for that. Shift click you say? Trying that shit tonight when I head up north to Stary.

:laughing - Can't even launch the menu for Arma 2 demo...my computer locks up and takes like 30 seconds to highlight an option with that aircraft carrier moving in the background.....

Pre-built pieces of junk, why can't they throw a halfway decent video card in?

Anybody have an unused video card laying around that could run this and want to let go of, for cheap...? :teeth

If you join the DayZ server be sure to check in on comms, there is a nice stash of loot and generally some vehicles around to come pick up fresh spawns. Right now an enemy clan has taken up residence and we find/raid each others camps every once in a while too, good times. Still haven't gotten a heli airborne for long, thats our next goal, having an operative heli team. btw, there are motorcycles in this game, we need a barf ride! :laughing

the dirtbike is pretty fun to ride. as a biker though it makes no sense. a full tank in the dirtbike is 60 liters? thats 15 gallons. and you'll run out of fuel in about an hour. i'd rather have one of the bicycles
