BART Strike Thread

Damn dude.
Motorcycles dont kill people, :wow and to think all these years I have been doing quick searches for guns and knifes that would surely get me one day,

I'm kinda glad bart didnt strike. Peopl now days tend to not be so happy about striking workers that have a job. Most think they should feel greatfull to even have a job. They talked about that last night on the news...

Yes, everyone who has a job AT ANY TIME should be thankful for the workplace, even if it sucks (we've all been there.)

What rubs me the wrong way are the people who think that just be cause they're out of a job, or took a pay cut, everyone else should too. In general, the population of this state is hypocritical at best. When the dot-com boom was on, you didn't hear anyone complaining about the tripe-figure income and stock options that programmers and web designers were earning because that's what the market paid. When the real-estate bubble was on, no one complained of the absolute KILLING that the agents, loan writers, and even appraisers were making. But now they're out of a job and they're whining because the people doing the job the web designer or real estate agent wouldn't have touched with a 50 foot pole when they were on the gravy train is making the same money as last year, and fighting to keep it.

and yes even Eisenhour.
watch out, your dating yourself...:laughing

I hope those BART union idiots fail. $108K to sit as a "Station Agent" (someone who avoids work at any cost) is plain silliness. Sure, the engineers (i use that term loosely) should make more cuz their responsability is more. However 6 figures+ is the average for ALL bart workers?

Ridiculious...fire them & give me a job @ half that & I would be happy...

Why do you single out CEO's pay? How do you feel about Hollywood actors and professional athletes and other celebrities? ........?

I going to assume that you are just being combative and adversarial here...surely you can see the difference

I have no problems with CEOs getting paid what they do. Doesn't bother me one bit. But what does is the fact that oil futures are traded on our stock market. That affects us on a way more direct level. Those banks have to turn a profit in the end, so CEOs won't get paid anything if they're not worth it.

Right. There's a board who can fire the CEO or cut his/her pay. It's all internal and politicized but it's not like the CEO can take all the money and run. Usually most of a CEO's net worth is tied up in his own company's stocks.

How about a job making 10% of that , with no benefits, 12 hours a day , 7 days a week?

That's the way it would be for everyone if Republicans had their way.

Don't be so quick to begrudge others who have it better then yourself, especially the ones who STICK together and do their bargaining collectively.

Stop whining and join a union!

I was in a union my previous job. They did absolutely nothing for me except take my $55 union dues each month. When I was let go ("position eliminated due to budget cuts"), they could not do anything.

Unions are worthless...

This conversation sounds like how some people say all cops are pigs. A lot of is based on personal experience which then gets generalized. Goes both ways btw :)

No... the Union you were in was worthless.

If you met a cop that was an asshole, would all cops then be assholes?

Hell, I've met plenty of women about whom I could string multiple words that would get me kicked off this board, but they're not all like that.

(I could go on for days...)

There are still a few of us old commies around. Mostly because we are living proof that motorcycles don't "necessarily" kill all the people who have been riding them for decades.
Make mine an O'Doul's though, so I make it home.:)

fuck that what about ireland32 on geary? you live in san francisco, i live in oakland, but i'm buying....o'doul's even, it's all good.:Port

Unions werent always useless, and some of them are still great. But some things shouldn't be unionized. Like government work and things like Bart.

That's not true at all. I work for Bart and made only $50k last year. My position tops out at $57k. There is overtime but nowhere near to make $100k or more. Like others have said, everyone is generalizing Bart employees based off of Station Agents and Train Operators. There are tons of other positions at Bart besides them.

Really? Get me a job! :laughing

Well train ops/engineers should get more; they have more responsability. But the few I've had the misfortune of dealing with (station agents) are absolutely worthless...

If they make over $100K a year that's plain sillyness...

That's because no one actually makes $100k. It's a figure that is leaked to the public by management which management knows that many people will misinterpret as "take home pay"; when in fact, it's a figure that includes wages AND benefits. Management knows that the public will misinterpret the number as "take home pay" and that is the intended effect. It's a move by management designed to stir up public outrage.

If the average worker (white collar or blue collar) were to add up all their benefits and their wage/salary, it would come out around $100k also. Note the fact that there is never a disclosure of the breakdown of the "benefits". I'd just assume the $100k is greatly inflated and probably even fabricated much like the $75/hr autoworker myth.

Not that I want to keep this thread going now the strike is over, but BENNIES count!

And they do break down benefits because taxpayers have to pay for them!
