Nah...it's just that in the Bay Area having a Duc is pretty darned common. Go out to Indiana or Tennessee and you get some very strange responses--hence the thread you saw. Actually, just go out to the East Bay and suddenly you're riding some "exotic machine". I was up on Mt. Diablo one time and this guy walks up to me and says, "Wow. I've never seen a woman on a Ducati." :wtf I still have no idea what that means...cuz in my mind riding a Duc is pretty emasculating, so all people on Ducatis are chicks.

But, hell, picking on Ducatis is so passe'. Get with the times, man. I'm going to start a thread about Bimota or maybe vintage Norton riders. Oooo Nortons. Those bastards! How dare they choose to spend their time and money keeping an old English POS running and have fun and look all pretty while they're doing it. Why don't they just conform to the hive thinking and get a modern Japanese bike like the rest of us, so that they can brag about the excitement of reliability and good gas mileage? :laughing
 
UNPOSSIBLE! Everyone knows people on MC forums don't talk about bikes or riding! We discuss who's puttin' it to who behind whose back!

yes, but you see, these here are DUCATI riders, and as such are vastly superior to all the rest of us. :rolleyes Most of the duc riders i've met are snobby pricks anyhow.

I just have to point out that old Nortons are bad ass and above reproach, so this suggestion falls flat. I think Buells are a better candidate to make fun of it we can't poke at Ducatis :twofinger

This is true. Buells really are the root of all moto-evil and they get passed over for the mockery for their louder, leakier, and more tasseled American brethren, the Harley.

BTW, here is the perfect response to someone who wants to argue about something he knows nothing about:

"You know nothing about this topic, so I don't see any point discussing it with you further."

Then smile and say not another word.

I had to develop this counter-argument when I got into an argument back in the early 90's about how Michael Jordan wasn't a great player. Not that he was an all-time great, but that he was just "good", not "great".

I argued that Jordan was great, but naturally, I lost because the other person was so obstinate about his stupidity that I couldn't defeat him.

My counter argument is polite and extremely insulting at the same time, and it forces the other person to either shut up immediately or prove that he actually does know something, which naturally he cannot.

Went to dinner and had my key on the table. The guy at the table next to me said "excuse me. what kind of key is that" and I replied "it's to my Ducati". Maybe he was interested in more than the bike and just wanted to talk but he came back with "do your really ride one or do you just have a key"? ??
