BMX Kids vs Long Beach PD

Never mind. This one is too easy, I've lost interest.

really? it wasn't some formal debate where two people showed up each of their own volition. the cop started, the kid finished. there's no obligation for the bullied party to be a graceful winner.

how about you cite the code for the law the officer broke?

and again: "Or are we just Making Stuff up today ?"

If an officer is going to tell someone not to do something, shouldn't it actually BE something that has been made law ?

Should it be incumbent on all Citizens to know the particular codes of the Officer's duties ?

Gotta follow the workflow of our chat for those words to make sense. Hopefully it's clear that I was chasing his reasons for only recognizing the flaws of the officer. It's silly. Like that officer who accidentally shot the dui suspect in Chico, I guess his actions are moot because the dui guy started it all. So, nothing the kid does matters because the officer started this one. It's a ridiculous 2d way of thinking. I don't even know why I'm typing this.

I don't think anyone thinks there is is. I merely stated though both could have been nicer.

What I saw: The cop got complaints, and came and asked them not to ride there. He actually was being nice about it. The kid knew the law and took him task for it. The cop was kind of a dick, the kid was kind of a dick.

I think the kid was in the right. I think he could have handled it better is all.

That kid is sadly going to get a big head from his friends and it will bite him in the ass someday.
But yeah, he schooled him.

to make me happy ?

The kid was being respectful at first. The officer lost me when he started with "oh, you wanna go that way?" and the Facebook comment and he could have been better when he left seeing as he was clearly in the wrong. Still, no excuse for the kids behavior after he left.

Yeah, never fight for your rights, you might get a sense of pride.

Come on now, I was not suggesting that. I'm just worried for that kid as he go so much pleasure out of it as all his friends were cheering. If I was that educated on the laws when I was that age, I would have done the same thing.

The 'kid', knowing that he was recording, really COULD have owned the moment by being a bit nicer about it, actually.

"You can't ride here."

"Well, officer Jones (he's wearing a name tag, you don't have to ask), you SAY THAT, but THE LAW on the matter is different. Has there been a change in the past 24 hours ?"

"ahhh...."

"Because this has come up before - you see, I ride here ALL THE TIME, so I looked it up - would you like to know what the relevant local ordinance actually says ? "

( next person that speaks loses )

Give the guy an out, you know - he might not be a jerk, and that way when the kid calls the Police sometime down the road and this guys shows up it won't be: "Oh, THIS guy..."

Some of you need to re-watch the parting shot.

That cop 1.) started the whole thing, and 2.) pulled the douche maneuver first as he walked away, with his tail between his legs, saying "dream big dude, dream big" (as if to say "punk street rat"). His ego couldn’t handle being pwned so he chose to be a condescending prick as he made his red-faced get-away. Then the ‘kid’ asks his name, the officer tells him (in a dickish way), and the ‘kid’ says “yeah, thanks man – hey, I appreciate you not giving us shit and walking away. Please stay informed and don’t harrass the public.” Big deal, he gave a triumphant "yeeeah" afterward.

That's just what crow stew tastes like when it's well deserved.

I also advocate acting as nicely as possible (especially to the police), but this reminds me of the song "Effect and Cause" - you can't take the effect and make it the cause. The cop can't blame the harasser for being more knowledgeable after he harasses him.

Absolutely.

Nobody here cares for the police that seem to just hassle people for no good reason, but at the same time, what if that guy said, "Well, I'll just stop patrolling that park with the rotten kids." and the place became a shooting gallery ?

Nobody "won" here.

Ok, "what if" the cop learned a lesson and quit trying to enforce what he "thinks" the laws are?

What if the cop told the next person that complained about the bicyclists that they're allowed to do so by LAW?

What if... Yea, what if people here quit giving cops all the consideration in situations where they deserve none?

We ALL won here.

BMX hero: "Did that law change?"

LEO: "I don't know let's check.... Nope, looks like your all good. Have a nice day."

BMX hero: "You too."

End scene.

Really it's not that hard to be an un-douche.

I'm going to respectfully disagree SM610 - and would be hard-pressed to say that a Police officer deserved NO consideration.

People get to be fallible, have bad days, etc. Unless you want RoboCops doing your police work...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mrXfh4hENKs

Yes, this officer comes off like a bit of a jerk, and nobody likes a bully with a badge - but when you alienate someone you often fail to make your point - and what would you prefer - to make a point, or an enemy ?

Like I said, imagine this man is to work this beat for the next few years - some thing happens there and he is needed, but decides to slow-walk on over because...well...fuck those brat kids.

Who benefited then ?

I'll say it again - often times I am struck with the instance where someone that I know - who is clearly in a much more powerful position takes the polite road - they don't feel the need to be mean, then have real power and don't need to strike a pose.

Often it is the weak that feel the need to be rude to imitate power - and here we have two parties being mean to each other...because ?

The kids feel harassed and the officer doesn't feel respected - did their behavior serve to change either one of those conditions ?

Would being nice have cost anyone anything here ?

Don't flame me for this, but wonder if the kid was white or black. Situation could've gone downhill real fast.
