BMX Kids vs Long Beach PD

The 'kid', knowing that he was recording, really COULD have owned the moment by being a bit nicer about it, actually.

"You can't ride here."

"Well, officer Jones (he's wearing a name tag, you don't have to ask), you SAY THAT, but THE LAW on the matter is different. Has there been a change in the past 24 hours ?"

"ahhh...."

"Because this has come up before - you see, I ride here ALL THE TIME, so I looked it up - would you like to know what the relevant local ordinance actually says ? "

( next person that speaks loses )

Give the guy an out, you know - he might not be a jerk, and that way when the kid calls the Police sometime down the road and this guys shows up it won't be: "Oh, THIS guy..."

Takes years of maturity to talk and think like that. But it would have been the right thing to do if you don't want to get tazied.

BMX hero: "Did that law change?"

LEO: "I don't know let's check.... Nope, looks like your all good. Have a nice day."

BMX hero: "You too."

End scene.

Really it's not that hard to be an un-douche.

There are many LEO's who would do that. All it take is one bad one the all to lose the respect of the people.

Should have called it good after "have a nice day", all the stuff after that kind of cheapens the 'victory'. And I sure hope that officer has a law degree if he's calling out someone who knows one code as being a lawyer.

I read the other posts you made but I'm only responding to this one. Are you fucking kidding me? A group shout down, citizen chants and tossing rotten veggies at that tard wouldn't have cheapened that scene.

He straight made shit up (legal), got called out by an "informed citizen" and walked away like the little lying bitch that he is. Now perhaps his actions are not his own. He possibly admits this when he says "I won't get complaints." If he DID act on those complaints on behalf of a merchant then the merchant should get picketed (by rolling bikes with signs) for discrimination towards the general public (people on bikes) and censured by the local board.

The only reason I lay into the cop like this is because of the "did you get your law degree on FB?" All Lt. Dickface needed to do to enforce a complaint was let the young people know about actual ordinances like proximity to peds and speed limits. As our own Barf LEOs have said time and time again, this is what sets average folks in opposition to LE. Holy shit, this both made my day and pissed me off.

I had a nice sit down with my SRO today to talk raising chickens, children and LE. He, and most other cops I know would never pull this shit, ever. Weak. Fucking. Sauce. The cop cheapened himself Byke, not the victim of his overreach, lack of preparation or lack of professionalism. I'm just sorry I have to frequent the town he "serves" on a regular basis. Fuck him. :|

I don't disagree with anything negative you said about the cop, but what you're basically promoting is being a shitty winner. When someone is shitty and then you're shitty, you're all the same. When someone is shitty and you somewhat politely call them out without going overboard, that's how you make yourself stand out. Don't be part of this hateful and punitive society that just looks for excuses to twist that fkn knife as much as possible, there's no honor in it.

The kid is about 14 yrs old, manners are still in puberty.
Cop just doesn't want listening to people bitch about kids on bikes.
He may have stretched the truth a bit but nobody went to prison no beatdown no harm done.

This x 1000! Anytime someone reacts to someone with equal or greater ferocity, but in the opposite direction they are the same. Extremists came from both sides and are the problem. Its not the nature of what the extremist says or does thats the problem, its the severity.

It's all about trying to have power over others, this instance is just shaming to make oneself "feel" empowered, and only creates enemies unless the receiver is a much bigger person. It's a lot harder to swallow our pride (EGO) and spare someone else's pride. This is also the basis for all the gang on gang crime claiming "respect." The need to inflate ones ego by tearing down other people.

It's not always a choice, but generally speaking cooperative relationships are more productive than adversarial ones.....especially when dealing with an "authority" figure

Seems like this kid is out fishing for cops to accuse so he can be a dick once again.
Still no excuse for misinformed or entitled officers.

sure he won that day. but pending if he drives? (how old is he? does he have a car? does the "kid" obey all the other laws). :rofl

he will see valid tickets coming his way. :party

but the way the cops cell phone is just hanging there i would like to ask him how often he needs to replace said phone? :wtf

getting one over on a leo like this can hurt you for months- longer?

but it does get back to why do some leos make up laws to fit a non crime?
would like to think this does not happen very often but from the videos seen in the past couple months makes me wonder, how many really know the law?
but then all the crash videos out of russa, make one think the streets are a battle ground.

.

He can start documenting a pattern of harassment. Which would just prove his initial point the cop is bad at his job.

:laughing

A grown man with the responsible job of police officer who either doesn't know the law or willfully lies about it VS sk8erboi, and they're being compared as equals. :laughing

My prediction is the kids will think they own the area and will hoon it up with impunity. More complaints will be generated. Maybe the cop gets the last laugh when he's speaking at a city hall meeting when the motion to ban bikes outside the bike path in the area gets passed.

Lanesplitting, anyone?

I'm torn - that 3rd link that c56 posted is really just awful - the guy swearing at the officer for writing him a ticket for something that IS against the law ? He deserves all the special attention he gets from the Po-Po for that.

However in the initial video of the guys in the park ? early on in the conversation the policeman says: "So you want to go that Way ?"

That was a perfect opening straight line for the guy loaded for a verbal duel !

" and Just what WAY are you talking about, officer Colby ? The Way that follows THE LAW and WHAT IT ACTUALLY SAYS ?? THAT way ? Yes, I'd like to go that way. Let's go THAT WAY. Now, let's just be clear here -- Do YOU know what the relevant code actually says ? Because I sure do, and I'd LIKE to go with the Law - how about you ? Would YOU like to follow the Law ? "

"Nice work, boys."

Just did a quick search and i was not able to find the code referenced by the BMX'r. He states it's 16.16.502. I was able to find 16.08.502 - Bicycles on Rainbow Harbor Esplanade.
Bicycle riding on the Rainbow Harbor Esplanade is prohibited in excess of three (3) miles per hour between the hours of ten o'clock (10:00) a.m. and ten o'clock (10:00) p.m., except City employees in the performance of their duties.

Maybe his argument is the area he is riding in is not part of the Esplanade, but the code he is referencing doesn't seem to exist.

*edit*

Found this which defines the area in question, 6.08.268 - Rainbow Harbor Esplanade.
"Rainbow Harbor Esplanade" means the walkways and all public area surrounding Rainbow Marina and Rainbow Harbor.

Using Google maps it seems this took place along the walkway behind the PF Chang's and seems to be within the area as defined above.

OK Gandhi. Cop deserved a dressing down, big time.

Better. It's my approach but I'm an adult, and as others pointed out, you're dealing with kids in this situation.

Ah, my point exactly. There's a damn good reason for restraint riding bikes around places like this. Inform respectfully, convey the complaint process (merchants have the right to secure their business-related area), and be on your way unless you directly observe a violation. Which he obviously didn't.

Ofc. Unfriendly is creating the larger problem, biasing youth against not just cops with badges being total tools, but any reasonable adult who might happen along and respectfully ask them to cool it. Equal measures of respect go a long way. Many a time I've stepped into these situations with the correct tone, body language, and "authority" with great results. Cops should be trained to ask for compliance sans gun, badge and crew cut before they are hired. Is your verbal kung-fu practiced, informed and reasonable? Anoint that man/woman! If not, back to school.

This guy is too old and experienced not to be perceived as a fuck up and disgrace to honest police work. Just a bully. Fuck him.

Plus he is wearing a silly-ass ring - what's up with that ugly thing ?
