Build Thread: CB350 Cafe

Why not just get an aftermarket fender and chop if to an appropriate length to cover the area needed?
Did you grind off all the extra frame lugs in that area, or can you find some to use for hanging brackets from? The back end could just be screwed directly to your tailsection.

We did cut off all the tabs and brackets back there, but I'm thinking the same thing you are...

Hi Gabe, talk to Potato man in Oakland (Jeff W). I gave him three or four early rear fenders for just this reason, I think he ended up using a Storz one on his Super Potato.

I was just going to run the stock fender, chopped...but hey, that sounds cooler...

Heh, that's essentially what this is. A '73 CB350 Front Fender with the rivets drilled out so that I could throw the fender away!
Sounds like you are all sorted then!

If anyone wants to take over someone else's project for $800:

so Gabe,

is this a distraction ploy, to throw us off the scent of your build?

Another ready-made bike...I know now that $2000 is a bargain! http://sfbay.craigslist.org/pen/mcy/2204090613.html

1970 Honda 350 cafe racer - $2000 (burlingame)

This has been a fun project but it's time to thin the heard. This bike is licensed and registered. Runs great. Clip-ons, rearsets, Newtronic CDI ignition and more. New tires. Aluminum tank is probably worth half what I'm asking for the bike. Engine has been gone through, seals replaced, new rings. This is a fun 'Rockers' bike, gets lots of attention. Hop on it and go, needs nothing.

I know this bike. It has TONS of goodies on it....

oh good I was worried this had died out like the internal supercharger build.

I'm doing a cl350 right now. Where did you find info about welding the frame? is it everything or just certain bits? Any idea on where to get cheap wheels?

This is a good resource:

Cheap wheels? Call Charlie O'Hanlon at Charlie's place, he has a ton of them. If you want good wheels, you'll have to pay for new rims and spokes! Cost about $1000 at Raber's in San Jose.

UPDATE: I had a busy day today!

Picked up a pair of BT-45s and tubes at SF Moto, then I headed over to the Moto Tire Guy to put them on my new wheels. That went pretty well (hint from MotoTireGuy: use WD-40 to help the beads seat on the rims), so I headed over to Mission Honda Yamaha and picked up some new bearings and other little bits I needed.

From there, I went to Superplush to pick up the fork assemblies. I had them install Racetech springs, oil and cartridge emulators.

And from there, it was over to Charlie's place to drop everything off. He told me he had all the engine parts ready to go for assembly and he will get the motor put together next week. So it looks like we'll be putting it all together soon.

It's Really Happening!

The dream becomes flesh--we now have a roller, complete with motor. Paint is done, we just need electrics and controls.

Anybody want to donate a late-model master cylinder?

Clean looking build so far! I like the suspension upgrades too, should be a joy to ride. :ride

I'm expecting a buzzy and crude POS, but at least it will have nice suspension. Racetech springs and emulators installed by Superplush in SF, and Works dual-stage shocks with aluminum bodies, 2 inches longer than stock. Should sharpen things up!

Unfortunately, I have to extend the centerstand, as it's too short now.

I also need a nice master cylinder. Any ideas?
