Just talking out my ass but why should any stock be twice its ipo price within a year of being released to the market, considering all the work that was put into coming up with that ipo price. The ipo price itself is often highly optimistic.
It may prove to be a great company but that doesn't mean its a great stock.

Do you think GPRO can convert from a hardware company to a media company that also creates hardware?

Do you think GPRO can monetize on that conversion?

Maybe, but do you think none of that was considered when an ipo # was calculated?

Why is a media comapny worth a 90 times multiple?

It was but to what extent I don't know. The IPO price is a reflection of what an investment house feels it can sell the stock to the public for.

Goog is a good example of a stock being underpriced at launch - $85 a share - expectation was $105 but the houses didn't feel that the general consumer would understand the business model

When Goog IPO'd did you feel there would be as much upside in it then it had? Where is it at today? The company has transitioned very well.

I don't know - I don't know what GPRO has up it's sleeves in regards to what form of media company it will become. HBO averages $1.8B in revenue will that be the model? Youtube does about $6B per year - will they attempt that model?

:dunno

I do know GPRO spent a cubic shite tonne of money in R&D recently - on what? I don't know but it wasn't camera development I would wager.

Google ipo'd at 19 times earnings. They were already established, everyone knew what they did.
Has gopro proved they can pull off the reinvent you're hoping for?

Go back and read what I said about speculation.

If they have proven it... It wouldn't be speculation :laughing

What do I think the stock is worth? What I can sell it for!

Yakoo beat me to it.

I don't know much about oil futures so yes go ahead and invest. :twofinger

I used to do research into all things energy, mostly on renewable but a bit into oil. I predicted we would never see under $3.50/gal here in California again.

Moral of this story: Don't listen to me.

It's already under 3.50 a gallon but I do agree with you that the days of 1.09 gas are gone ( you did say that right ? :) ). The history of oil is telling and with the drop in price I am willing to bet that it will go right back up I just don't know enough to make an educated guess.

I don't make predictions anymore, but I would agree $1.09 gas is gone haha.

and only commenting on this again because I just read this:

Michael Pachter placed a FY2015 EPS estimate of $1.15 per share plus cash which equals a multiple of 70 times earnings

$81 price target.

"We believe that GoPro deserves a high multiple due to its nascent and rapidly growing addressable market, the phenomenal benefits of its viral free marketing, its ability to reinvest in leading-edge technology and design, and its strong brand that permits premium pricing for its products."

Moreover, Pachter stated, "According to the NPD Group’s Retail Tracking Service, GoPro was the top-selling camcorder and a top-six selling camera accessory company in the U.S. in 2013."

Well I did say I was talking out my ass. I'm not a big speculator so I wouldn't be following any analyst making an argument for a 70 times multiple. I try to pick a stock picker, I never try to pick a stock. Some guys have a much better track record than others.
There's room for gambling but with a small percentage for me.

Good luck with your picks
