Honestly, watching people gaming isn't any different that watching people play sportsball.

Used to watch high level Star Craft videos but that was because I was looking for different strategies not like it was a TV show.
Agreed.Still think watching people play video games for entertainment is weird. Nothing against it, it's just weird....
Well that's a big part of it, right? Folks are far more likely to watch a streamer play a game they're enjoying, especially if the streamer is playin gthe game at a considerably higher level. There's an entertainment factor to it as well. Plus the ability to interact with the streamer.
I think its weird that people would watch televised golf tournaments, but I don't really like golf. But I'll watch a machinist slowly make gorgeous, bespoke parts out of metal, because that's something that's personally interesting to me.
Yeah but a lot of times that's not what's going on. People like watching celebrities and pop icons on twitch and a lot of time they are trash.
If Miley Cyrus had a Twitch channel playing Street Fighter, it would be huge but she'd probably get fucked up by my neighbor's 10 year old kid.
Basically, they're the same. But the big difference difference between watching a twitch streamer and watching a football game is that on twitch you have the opportunity to have a two-way interaction with the person who is streaming - and of course that creates and reinforces a positive feedback loop, one that twitch was all too excited to monetize, both to the benefit of the steamer and the platform.
Indie porn sites like only fans and other cam sites do the same thing- they created it, actually. Twitch adopted the idea from indie porn.
crackdown based on what?
ok realtalk for a min tho.
There's a good number of people that make bank streaming themselves playing video games and using other new media outlets (patron based fan/subscription sites).
There's also a bunch of jealous dummies who think this isn't legit income due to some moral and ethical reason. Why are these people so salty? These content creators are just taking advantage of the economic hellscape previous generations cultivated and produced.
Right? She didn't even have to buy a rack of GTX 1080s to crunch on some really large prime numbers to generate an imaginary coin that would become ridiculously bloated in value. She just had to take her clothes off!
I think that people just see the Youtube videos / twitch streams / Onlyfans accounts or whatever and think 'that seems easy, anyone could do that', when the reality is that it takes a lot of skill and luck for most people to really make bank on these platforms, and the majority of users on all of them go years having very little following, and thus very little to no income.

Yep, that's a biiig part part that folks like to conveniently overlook - that you don't just open up the Twitch Taps and starrt pouring money into your pocket. You have to spend hours, weeks and years streaming and building your audience, for free or for very, very little money before you start making anything that you can consider an income.
People love to clown on Jimmy Diresta, who is one of the most popular youtubers in the maker/craftsman/diy world, for constantly getting free tools. Thing is, he had to work for 5-6 years for free to get his channel to a place where people would want to give him free tools so he can feature them.
Well that's the other side of the coin - here's someone you admire (not saying you or I admire Miley Cyrus, but for the sake of the example, lets say we do) being bad at a thing that you and I are good at. It makes the celebrity more relatable. Also, not to keep banging on about the interactive nature of streaming, but that's a huge draw for streams like this.
(though TBH I'm shit at Street Fighter and wouldn't be surprised if Miley Cyrus could kick my ass).
Pretty much all of this stems from the basic model of advertising, and the realization that humans paying attention to things, no matter how odd, is fungible and will be commodified.
Porn have always been at the forefront of technology and monetization.
Can we get back to the real question of what constitutes megaporn?

She is probably more successful than some people in the business for years.
Her one day money shot made her, without a doubt, more successful than the vast majority of porn stars ever.
