What chemical/product do you guys recommend for cleaning and degreasing the chain? Thanks!

You're supposed to clean your chain???:shocker

Per my service manual: kerosene or a similar solvent to clean, heavy weight gear oil to lubricate.

WD40 and a rag then use this:

You can get this at most Home Depot's or Lowes.

do not pressure wash you will damage the o-rings
I'm in teh WD40 and Teflon camp :thumbup

When you apply WD40 by the way, don't jet it at the chain. Either spray it on your rag/toothbrush and then apply, or use a light touch on the spray button and let it foam out the straw and drip/ooze on rather than jetting out.

wd40/kerosene to clean.

then i lube it with lube

+1

And no need to bother with the WD40 every time unless the chain is gunky.

Have used Kerosene and WD40, although I found the Kerosene worked much better, but then again, it was the only chain cleaning I did myself.

I know I'm not a mod, but shouldn't this be in the "Reviews & Recommendations" or "the Garage" section?

One hour in General gets you more responses than a week in any of those :laughing

As for those recommended a brush, thanks. I thought a rag always worked well enough, but I never had another option to compare it with.

Chain cleaner? Psshhh.. just pee on it.

:teeth JK

Hey OP, whatever you use, DO NOT clean your chain with the motor running and in gear. I'm sure you can guess why, and yes it does happen.

A rag works well at making the chain look pretty. Thing is, the reason you clean the chain is to remove grit from the O-rings to prolong their life and prevent grit from working it's way past the O-ring. In other words, your entire chain could be one giant pile of ooze, so long as the O-rings are clean, and you'll be A+ good-to-go. :)

It's like teeth, you think you're supposed to be cleaning the white parts, but really you're supposed to be cleaning the gum-line. Coincidentally (or is it a coincidence?) a toothbrush is wonderful.
