So get back from the islands and have my lab results come back for my cholesterol. Damn. LDL 197 HDL 35. Not good. No wonder i've been feeling off. Doc says i need EKG stress test and some other tests too. Unbelievable how genetics play such a big role in how you'll eventually die. I already eat a Mediteranean diet, oats, flax, olive oil, etc...and exercise 6 days a week. Cruel nature of the beast.

Guys/girls...get yours tested if you over 30 you never know

You eat a lot of cheese?

You eat a lot of cheese?

No dairy really except for fat free cottage cheese. Only thing i can think of is that i did splurge over the holidays for about 2 weeks, candy and pie etc... Normally though, i am a very strict eater, no fried foods, alchohol, low red meat intake.

Reason i went in to get it checked was i was having some pain in my chest, headaches, and general lower energy levels during my workouts.

Eat more fish (cod, wild salmon, pollock and other cold water specimen), and get some Omega 3 supplements.

Your problem could be that you're not getting enough good fat intake.

^^^ I do all that. Supplement with Omega's, Soy, eat fish 2 or 3 times a week... Its just shitty genetics i think

Wow that's crazy. I think my dad's side has cholesterol problems. I'm only 27 but I'm gonna go get a blood test once my health insurance kicks in

You wen eat too much Loco Moco o wat brah? :laughing

but srsly, Hawaiian food is not exactly heart-friendly. Except for lomi salmon maybe.

you'd be pissed at me if you knew my diet and cholestorol

stay on top of the chest-pain-thing......i took a friend (in shape) on a bike ride....he complained of chest pain - then had a heart attack that eve....

another friend (who is in tip-top shape) had the same thing after a few rides....a little chest pain.....a quick Dr. visit, emergency surgery...and all is good.....

take care hombre'

thx yeah i'm starting myself on baby aspirin just in case..lol But i go for an EKG and hopefully things will be fine. My pain wasn't excruciating..just a slightly noticeable discomfort that kinda keyed me into all my other symptoms, which is why i went in. I remember a PE teacher who was a great runner when i was young, kick the bucket of heart attack at age 39...he was in great shape too.

My dad had quadruple bypass in his late 30s. I turn 35 soon. I worry about it now and then, but not enough to bother getting checked out yet.

It's always bugged me that they say one of the risk factors is not knowing your cholesterol. How in the world do they think knowing a number is some how less risky than not knowing it? The number is the same regardless of whether you know what it is or not! Yes, yes, if you know it is high then you can live a healthier lifestyle to reduce your risks blah blah blah...so it's your lifestyle and not the number or knowledge thereof, thanks for proving my point. :x

What's the easiest / cheapest way to get tested? Just curious.

If you're exercising HARD CORE six days a week, you may be running yourself into the ground instead of letting your bod recover fully.

Exercise consists of weight training 4 days a week, cardio off and on 3-4 days a week (moderate intensity), and boxing. I'm not training hard 6 days a week either weights or cardio. IMO the amount i do isn't overdoing it, often i just maintenence train, i get plenty of sleep and rest days, and exercise shouldn't be a contributing factor to the cholesterol LDL levels increasing.

I have Kaiser. Cost me $40 to get a full blood/urine panel done with Doctor visit. I consider that cheap insurance :teeth

Point is...without the number you won't know what to change or even underlying conditions. Don't delude yourself into believing good health is a constant, or not needing management.
