Cholesterol

Good luck with your health. What's your alcohol consumption like? What have doctors recommended for you so far? Is there anything that could be contributing other than your genetics (sodas, processed foods, not enough fiber/healthy fat, too much protein, etc...)? On the face of it seems like you're doing everything right.

I'll probably be getting to know them soon here.

If it is a genetic thing, you can manage it to the point but you will eventually end up with prescription meds. I got my blood tested when I turned 30 and they turned to be pretty bad. I made drastic changes to my diet, exercise and lifestyle and re-did the test 90 days later. The improvements were marginal. My brother has the same issue, but our dad, who is 63, has a perfect blood results. Unfortunately, our mom was gone when we were 2 years old and we could never find out about her family's health history.

Sounds like you are already doing a lot to improve the cholesterol levels. I would wait another 60 days and re-do the test. If it is still bad, start taking meds.

just guessing here.....but you may have had a chunk of plaque cut loose off one of your arteries and now is partially blocking something important in/around your heart.....

increased blood flow causing chest pain.....headache....low energy.....you're making me worried Jefe'.....

:|:wow hope i make it to the appointment

Pete's cholesterol is terribly bad. I did a buch of research and came up with these gems. Basically there are some foods that can really reduce your cholesterol - oats, almonds, etc. I had to create the list of cholesterol levels myself - converting to a 6oz. serving from different websites. Unfortunately, there are (I think) some inconsistencies due to different reporting sources. And shrimp is really really bad, I had no idea.....

I had my Cholesterol tested back in 2005. I was 230lbs at the time. I think my total was 258 and my Tri's were 348, the ldl was well I forgot. and the HDL was 34. I immediately changed my diet and started riding my bike. After 6 months my #'s came down but the HDL didn't. The doc said only exercise will bring that up, so I started to really ride my bike. I was riding every other day and longer and harder. I always get a pain in my chest but after stress tests and even blood tests there is not a problem so I have a feeling it is from my upper back in the spine all due to riding sport bikes for 20 years. If I hunch over I get a numb spot just under my neck but on the GS sitting upright I am fine. anyway
My tri's came way down after eating different and my total dropped like 50 points in the first 6 months. My HDL went from 34 up to 46. I have not been tested for a while now seeing I lost my medical. I am trying to find a place to have that done now. My doctor tole me that Longs or Walgreen's might do it once in a while for like $15 but I have not looked into that yet. I am almost 46 years old by the way. And I will be riding my bicycle again in a 100 mile diabetes ride. I am always looking for sponsers also.

Anyone on Mevacor? I've been on it for about a year and recently have been getting arthritic like pains in my wrists, elbows, and now my knuckles. When I go off for about 6 weeks the pain goes away. Anyone else with similar issues? I'm not sure that it's the pills. Maybe just getting old...

Try a different med...if you're over 40 those might be just normal age related things

Genetics. I have the same very low readings I did at 39. ( almost 63) I still exercise regularly and eat pretty healthily. My mom had sky high readings all her life and died of a stroke, and her dad of a heart attack in his fifties. She also exercised and ate well.

I also had a strange test a couple years ago where my readings were high, but not since.

As far as pain: When I was in the middle of a very stressful business ownership, I had chest and left arm pains on a daily basis. And high blood pressure. When I moved to a less stressful environment the blood pressure dropped, and when I stopped taking high stress projects my chest pains went away. It's been fifteen years since I had them.

I recently ran the treadmill test until the Doc laughed and said he wished he could do that well. But genetics play a huge part.

O, and READ THE LABELS on the statins and think twice about taking them. Ditto all drugs. They ain't kidding when they print the side effects. I had a negative reaction to Cipro ( antibiotic) last time I took it ( tendon pains and knots) and some people have horrible reactions. I met a guy who was disabled from taking Cipro. Statins like Mevacor also have side effects:

Abdominal pain/cramps, altered sense of taste, blurred vision, constipation, diarrhea, dizziness, gas, headache, heartburn, indigestion, itching, muscle cramps, muscle pain, muscle weakness with rash, nausea, rash, weakness.

And it is only supposed to be prescribed if diet, exercise and weight loss fail to work, but so MANY Doctors prescribe that shit like it was a MIRACLE DRUG WITH NO SIDE EFFECTS.

Stay away from prescription drugs if you possibly can. They don't prescribe them because they are good for you, they are out there because the Big Pharma makes Big Money from them. Period.
