Chromebook or Windows?

I'm looking for the best fruit to eat. I like peaches and pls. Got any ideas?........

Grapefruit is the catfish of fruits.

Mike they have these sweet snap peas at costco that are stupid good. Lightly sweet and the super crunchy texture is the best. Cold right out of the fridge, no sitting around.

Don't make that a blanket statement. Apple refurb is the best there is. Sometimes people just return an Apple product for any number of reasons within that 14-day window Apple allows when ordered directly from Apple or from the Apple store.

Yeah, but if you get that you have to deal with the trashpile disaster that is Apple Software, and who wants that nightmare on their head?

;)

Since you are making the claim...can you please elaborate. BTW, like I said before, I use both Windows 10/11, and MacOS and a splash of a few flavors of Linux. They all have their strengths and weaknesses.

1) I am fundamentally deeply hostile to walled garden software design. I want to be able to tinker with my device to make it do what I want, when I want, in the way I want. I want Universal Standards so I am not tied to any strictly proprietary bullshit Hardware or Software.

2) I do not like cloud based resources and do not like any tech that requires an active internet connection to function. If power goes it in a 20 mile radius for days on end, I expect to be able to start a generator, power my devices, and experience full functionality with the exception of transfer of data to others, which I also expect to be able to do physically with a USB flash drive, should I choose to.

Understanding those 2 requirements I have, it becomes very apparent very quickly why Apple products are trash to me, yes?

While various Windows and Linux flavors have their ups and downs, as you say, Apple's designs are essentially intentionally the opposite of what I demand in a system.

Those are all fair enough objections. Thanks for the elaborating.

I think for those who use MacOS (lets say beyond creators) like the fact their iPhone, Mac and iPad can be easily sync'd including using iMessage. Yes, I know you can do the same through through Windows and Android (or iOS with apps like OneDrive, WhatsApp, etc) with the right apps, it's not as "seamless" as Apple makes it for their customers.

Thankfully for my job, I don't need a specific software so I can use my Microsoft365 account on both my Windows gaming rig and my 14" MBP. Although, I don't like using Office and Outlook on the Mac. I just don't. I'm so used to using them on Windows that there are quirks to MacOS that I don't like.

There are times I just want my shit to work. And more often than not, it's MacOS that just works. Thankfully I'm savvy enough to limit weird shit with Windows.

So as luck would have it, my cheap ass chromebook came back to life. I'll nurse this POS until it's time to buy a new one.

What you really need is an abacus. It will solve all your problems.

Get one in chrome.

Put it in the window next to the apple pie.

No problem, we're all allowed our 'druthers, right?

LOL, yes, if you choose the Apple Ecosystem, you can very seamlessly exist within it across your entire life for them to observe. That is how I usually classify Apple products, as being for people who just want tech that functions without them having to think about it.

Did I also mention I am extremely hostile to big data and try to be careful to make sure none of my devices talk to each other, share log ins, user accounts, etc?

I can tell you the new "Windows as a Service," model is giving me fits these days. :laughing

So...update?

:twofinger damn you.

So I kept using my Chromebook until it took a shit. Then I bought a new one. It also took a shit. SO I returned it to Costco and vowed to never buy a computer again. Then my GF bought me another Chromebook, which was FINE, I guess.

Then I went to Africa and had to process 5000 photos and realized the Chromebook just couldn't do that. At all. So my needs kind of changed. While I originally just wanted something to surf the net and argue with barfers, now I actually needed a computer.

So I, um, er, bought a fucking Mac. If there is one thing I hate more than Macs, it's Windows-based computers. Anyways, I was all set to buy a MacBook Air, but then Jordan mentioned the Mac mini. So I bought one of those and went big, getting the Pro version etc. I honestly was tired of slow, cheap computers. I get too angry too fast for that BS.

For most of my needs it's wayyyyy overkill. But for the photo stuff, it worked out great. Just this photo right here from my trip made it worth the money and the crow I'm currently eating as I type this.
