Classic movies you've never watched

Million Dollar Baby will be a classic, if it's not already.

I am hostile to the idea that the Harry Potter Franchise is a classic. in 20 years, no one will know what they are.

Well someone mentioned Fast and the Furious, I figured it would sit on the same table at the buffet.

The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean (1972)

Kind of High Plains Drifter x Paint Your Wagon

And a pet bear.

Oh, dude, yeah, that also. Fast and Furious will just be generational popcorn like the people who used to know about Smokey and the Bandit movies.

Really, F&F Movies are just the Gen X/Millennial version of Smokey/Cannonball Run.

Gone With The Wind (seen scenes)
Casablanca (in full)
It's A Wonderful Life (many times)
Shane (can't remember much)
Spartacus (1960 film) (yup)
Ben-Hur (yes)
Going My Way (liked Robin and the Seven Hoods better)
East of Eden (for school)
Lawrence of Arabia (all of that long epic)
Doctor Zhivago (yeah)
The French Connection (never picked my feet)

Have never watched any of editions of The Godfather trilogy. Not a fan of glorifying the mob.

Hmmm...how about classics I wish I hadn't wasted my time on instead.

Citizen Kane
Touch of Evil
The Third Man
Gone With the Wind
Sound of Music
The Maltese Falcon
Logan's Run
The Green Berets
The Magnificent Seven

I guess I'm a barbarian, but nothing about any of them moved me in the least.

Citizen Cane, The Maltese Falcon and Logan's run were good. Overrated, but good. Go into them knowing the 8/10 rating is off and I think they're easier to enjoy. We just watched Touch of Evil the other night, it was pretty tough not to laugh at Welles at first.

The one I had a tough time with was Omega Man, but at least its rating is more appropriate.

Haven't seen any of the Godfathers, but I've heard that if you only watch one, watch the second. It's been on the dvr for months, not always easy to squeeze in a 4hr flick.

The Holy Trinity of Chuck Heston Movies:

Planet of the Apes
Soylent Green
Omega Man

I may have told this story before, but when I was kid we watched "Omega Man" on TV, and I thought it was kinda scary since I was maybe 8 or 9. Not too long after I was in line at Longs with one of my older sisters when another customer came up behind us... it was "Lazarus" (Anthony Zerbe). I kinda freaked out... it was kinda funny.

It is a bummer when the tech doesn't stand the test of time, like it does in movies like The Exorcist, which is why I prefer low/no tech in older movies. I love Soylent Green, it's a legit good movie. Planet of the Apes are always fun. I like the war movies from the late 30's through the 50's. Just watched Sergeant York the other night, another really good one, roughly similar to Hacksaw Ridge. Paths of Glory is another.

Dark Star by John Carpenter

vicious horrible nasty alien
computer with existential drama

I found Some Like it Hot to be a worthwhile watch, and pretty dang funny

Great movie.

Casabanca and Key Largo are also great.

I'll add
North by Northwest
The Birds
Harold and Maude
Chinatown

Add Papillon is beyond great.
