Cone Practice June 8 Pictures

At least he didn't do burnouts on them.... did he? :laughing

Good reminder. It's time for me to refresh my skillz.

Good pictures. :thumbup Here is the one picture I got. I am a worse photographer. This is the only one that wasn't blurry.

ex911 showing exactly how it's done.

May I say Bob, excellent head turn:thumbup....looking up at the beer can....I mean red can

Ooh, I see my new avatar pics here! :banana

Great pics gang, thanks! :thumbup

Well the last 8 days have been too much work and too much riding :p so apologies for the loooong delay in posting my pics, hopefully with the clever captions you'll think they're worth the wait! :teeth

So herewith, the cone practice pics!

Got to the site a little late (Azn time :dunno) and already peeps are waiting their turns: R-L holylemon, stoneed_11, and someone's red pants :laughing

SVBEESGAL was first out with some last minute instructions from masameet:
DSC02417.jpg

nice lean angle there SVBEESGAL!
DSC02422.jpg

masameet says "Head turn! Head turn! Look at me!"
DSC02424.jpg

and it really worked!

Next, local celebrity gmcsid comes out to give us a little demonstration and sign autographs (well ok he didn't sign autographs but did help masameet out with coaching)
DSC02427.jpg

gmcsid demonstrating the bike control skills that made him one of only six civilians to have passed the Alameda County Sheriff's Advanced Motorcycle course.

Note how tight he is to the end cone in the u-turn exercise:
DSC02428.jpg

That's over 1000 lbs of bike and rider leaned over at that angle! Nice "hinge-ing" of the upper body gmcsid! And yes the floorboards were scraping.
DSC02430.jpg

Peeps, it really starts with the head turn and look-where-you-want-to-go:
DSC02431.jpg

gmcsid comes in to give his clutch and rear brake a break (get it :laughing) with masameet and jpm looking on (more on that later):

Next up was holylemon. Lovely bike :drool
DSC02433.jpg

Note the improvement on the head turn (and resultant lean angle) over these next four pics. Well done holylemon! :applause

if you've got wide bars and short arms it helps to lean forward to reach full lock! :laughing

Next, local barfer and motorman JPM also came out to help coach and give demonstrations.

Here the cone practitioners pay rapt attention to JPM's words of wisdom. Well, except for Sivad87! :laughing
DSC02458.jpg

JPM demonstrates why he's a pro, even on his civilian bike:
DSC02456.jpg

We'll wrap up the cone portion of the pics with a final shot of gmcsid in the maze pattern to inspire you all to keep up your practice and head turns:
DSC02462.jpg

Next, the ride after!

But first, some "behind the scene" shots of people.

ex911 and masameet. Nice helmet hair there ex911!
DSC02465.jpg

Sivad87 demonstrates the ugly side of cone practice :laughing Ironically this happened outside of the maze as he was leaned over making the turn to re-enter the maze and leaned over so much that he dragged hard parts.
DSC02466.jpg

Sivad87 says "It's better to find the lean angle limit of your bike in low speed cone practice instead of high speed street corner!"
DSC02467.jpg

masameet says "NSFW!" :laughing

The cone-practice class of (June) '08.
L-R: apeture8, Sivad87, SVBEESGAL, holylemon, stoneed_11, masameet, and ex911
DSC02470.jpg

masameet says "go forth and make good u-turns!"
DSC02471.jpg

Move 'em out:
DSC02473.jpg

Next we go for a group ride in the hills to practice our mad skillz:
DSC02475.jpg

But first, let's get gas!
DSC02476.jpg

And some decided they wanted to get the free car wash with a fill up:
DSC02477.jpg

First, masameet took us on Cummins Skyway:
DSC02480.jpg

Where the scenery was perfect:
DSC02481.jpg

With great sweepers:
DSC02482.jpg

A squidly-dressed couple on a Harley even got mixed in. Those damn Harley riders :mad
DSC02483.jpg

Classic shot.
DSC02485.jpg

It was cool coming round the bend and seeing the Carquinez Bridge in the background.

Then we took a quick break to say good-bye to aperture8 before tacking the next set of twisties.

Here masameet says "I want ape hangers on my bike!"
DSC02489.jpg

While the rest tried to imagine masameet with 16" apes on her 'tard:
DSC02490.jpg

Next was Franklin Canyon Road.
DSC02494.jpg

A little twistier, but veddy nice! :thumbup

B-F: Sivad87, holylemon, stoneed_11, gee-I-wonder-who-that-is :p, and masameet leading.

Always the hostess-with-the-mostest, masameet made sure everyone knew how to get to where they need to go, at the next stop where some more left the group:
DSC02503.jpg

We said our traditional BARF good-byes.
DSC02505.jpg

DSC02506.jpg

Before masameet took the remaining group on our last set of twisties: Pacheco Blvd!! :laughing
DSC02509.jpg

The End.

Hope you enjoyed the (late) show! :p

Nice pictures! Felt like I was there, especially on the ride after (Wish I could have made it, stupid permit... lol).
The guy on the 1k cruiser scraping floors REALLY got it done on that track, didn't he? That was cool!

WOW!
Looks like it was a very enjoyable day.
I definitely need to do the next class as my u-turns are terrible.
The ride afterwards looked like a lot of fun also.

Very cool photos, ex911! I didn't realize that you had taken so many! :) Now my non-riding friends can see what it looks like when we're :ride and they'll have a good sense of "the BARF attitude" with your excellent commentary, :laughing

i dont know why but i started busting up laughing at the "weed fire" sign behind me in the barf salute pic.

And finally you post them up. ive been waiting forever it seems! :p

:laughing

Good pictures, Bob!

(And that fat girl in the light blue shirt really needs to get on the BARF's Biggest Loser thing. Aack.)

Watching holylemon on her Ninja was a treat. She went from tentative to Dang! So self-assured in almost nothing flat.

In fact, everybody did great. :applause

P.S. That's the Carquinez/Zampa Bridge(s). The Benicia Bridge was in the background at the parking lot.
Doh! Y'know, I thought it looked more like the Carquinez Bridge but it's been a long time since I've been over on that side of the bay so I thought "nah, what do I, a Southbayer, know about these things!" :p
