Cone Practice, Sunday, June 8

Hello, everyone (I wish that I could remember all of your names!),

Had a blast today! :D

Thanks, everyone, for guiding this newbie along. Lots of gratitude especially to Yvonne, Eric, John, and Kim for the help that they gave me. :hail

It was great meeting all of you & I hope that you enjoyed the rest of your ride. :ride And, ex911, thanks for being a terrific, and patient, sweeper, :thumbup

I learned *a lot* today and have tons more to learn (as all of you could clearly see), so I'll be there for the July 12th session, unless something unexpected comes up. Fortunately, in one week's time starts my summer vacation, and I'll have lots of time to practice! :party

And, yes, that sun _was_ relentless! Unfortunately, I left my sunscreen at home & the amount that I put on in the AM was not enough to prevent a tan/burn....Oh, well, c'est la vie! :p

Will the pictures be posted here or in the Moto Forums section??

Thanks again for such a hosting such a great day! very eventful and glad to see such a great turnout! not to mention finding the turn limits a sportbike made me feel good (except for the scraped knee :thumbdown) looking forward to seeing the all the pictures uploaded too!

I will make arrangements to be at the next one to setup everything again. Great meeting everyone! hope to see some of you at the next one! :ride

Thanks for hosting this Yvonne! Also, thanks to the guys who helped out: Ryan, John, and Eric. It was great meeting the rest of you guys. I learned a lot and I feel a lot more confident in my u-turns (thanks for being patient with me, Yvonne and John :teeth). I definitely have more practice to do, especially with looking where I want to go. I'll try to make it out next month and try the other courses. I only did the u-turns and the cloverleaf. The twisties were fun. The second part was a little scary. I almost dumped on that one where it was a sharp left followed by a sharp right.

I'll post pictures up soon in motophotos. Bob has all the good ones :thumbup.

Yes some amazing skill on that harley!

Ya i was absolutly tearing up that pattern constanly scraping boots on the pavement until my ego said "is that all you got? you can give it more!"

Lets just say hard bike parts dont let you turn very well once they drag.

I really hope ex911 has some great pics! im really anxious to see them! im hoping he got some of me on the pattern would be great to see. :thumbup

I felt good on the maze course on george's 250 after doing it on my bike. Then once I got back on it on my bike, and after ryan giving me some advice, i was doing it and feeling nice.

The handling he had on his Harley was simply amazing. He could go so smooth and slow without any indications of even wanting to put a foot down. Simply had amazing control of his 850lb bike. It was an honor watching it.

You all did great today! It was fun seeing everybody improving thier skills as the day went on. I had lots of fun and it was great meeting everybody.

Thanks for putting this together Yvonne! :thumbup

Uhhhh, are you *sure* you're talking about me?? :confused (I'm the one with the red 450 Rebel and the "DĂa de los muertos"-like helmet with the skulls.) The reason that I'm confused is that while I was eventually able to do those U-Turn exercises, in my opinion, it took **a lot** of guidance for me to get to that point; learning how to use the friction zone was paramount to my success :teeth and there's _no way_ that I was going to attempt to do that last exercise!!! :laughing (And if you were thinking of someone else, no worries! :laughing )

Edited to add this paragraph: Hey, I think I figured out the confusion...Were you there from the beginning, or did you come a little bit later on? I'm thinking that you weren't there from the very beginning, because if you had been, you woulda seen how terribly (and I mean terribly) I was doing those U-Turns when I first attempted to do them. Fortunately, Eric realized that I wasn't using the friction zone, and he gave me lessons on how to use the friction zone. After practicing on my own for some time (with Eric's guidance and feedback), I finally got the hang of using the friction zone and when I came back to the main group, I was able to do those U-Turns successfully! :party

I really hope that you don't have cone nightmares tonight--it is tricky getting that exercise down; I think that getting the feel for the balance of the bike and having the correct throttle control are not easy feats. And, remember, don't look down at the cones! :thumbup

I agree to all these points that you made here, and also to what stoneed_11, Sivad87, dwarf, and gmcsid have said.

Who is holylemon? The one riding the red Ninja? And dwarf, what's the color of your bike and your helmet? I feel so terrible that I'm not matching the names with the people that I met! :cry

I love your pictures stoneed_11! Thanks for posting them, :) It's great to see pics of us in action! (And now I finally know what I look like when I ride!! :p )

P.S. SVBEESGAL, I had to edit out your smilies because of the 10 smilies per post limit...Sorry about that!

Ah, yes, thanks for correcting me mina...your 450 rebel....you DID have a great advancement from beginning to end- and you DIDN'T topple your bike either.:ride

Yes, too many new faces to go with new real names that go with Screen names:blush....agh. Help...

Don't worry about editing my smilies....there always will be more when motorcycle talk is concerned:)

Scraped knee? What did you do after I left?

First, a big :hail to masameet. We should be buying you lunch for going through all the hard work of putting this together. :thumbup

Nice to see such a good turn out, and every one was making the tight u-turn by the afternoon. :thumbup

I know we all hear people posting "target fixation" and to "look where you want to go", but a lot of you actually saw what a difference it makes when I was there yelling "Look at me" And no, it’s not because I'm an attention whore. :laughing

Sorry I did not stay for the ride after but I had other obligations I had to do.

Scraped knee? What did you do after I left?

basically i was getting really good at the maze pattern and kept pushing it (faster and more lean angle) consistantly scraping my boots in the corners. thought i could get a little bit more turn out of it and lowsided (hard parts scraped and took the weight off the rear tire methinks)

scraped my knee up a lil bit. ex911 has a picture if he posts them. :cool

you binned it in the maze ryan? i gotta see the pictures. I thought you had the under control man, you must of been really pushing it after I left :rofl I'm glad it's only a scrape man

Ya i pushed it allot, basically near max lean angle on all corners. ran out of lean though. its ok, was fun.

He _did_ have that maze under control. Then he pushed it (and pushed it) & ran out of clearance. :( I'm glad that it was "just a scrape," but it is a pretty good sized one. Take care of yourself, man!

Yes, red Ninja rider here!

I had a ton of fun yesterday. Thank you all so much for an exciting and educational day. Thanks especially to all of our teachers and of course to masameet for organizing!

Looking forward to seeing you guys at other events!
