This will be my on going review of the new road attack 2. I'm going to keep updating when I have fresh opinions and things to report.

So this morning I got them mounted and it started to rain. Fun. New tires in the rain typically spell danger and fail. Hell new tires in the dry typically aren't the most confidence inspiring, they have to be gradually broken in before they work like they should. However the roadattack 2 claims to be pre scrubbed in, so in theory you can ride aggressively from the get go.
So I went through a freshly wet San Francisco to see how well they worked brand new in the rain.
Very fucking well actually.
I was able to brake hard and take off quickly with anything breaking. I dove into a few corners with some reservation and they held fine. Too good to be true so far. "I'm a professional idiot" I thought to myself "lets see what it takes to get these to break loose. " so mid corner I gave it some beans. Enough to make any tire break free in the rain, and they did break traction but they did very predictably. A slight ease of the throttle and traction was regained. Nothing dramatic like the slide I got on my pilot powers in the dry. And these are brand new in the rain!

I haven't been this impressed with a tire since the first pirelli rosso.

Ill report back on dry conditions outside of the city and tire life.

Did you pick these for any specific reasons?
Price point? Brand preference? Wanted to try something new? It was what was available at the time? :dunno

(I'm just a curious cat)

I highly recommend these tires I had them on the tiller and not a slip rain or shine..or maybe I didt give the bike more gas to test them lol

I wanted to try them.I really liked my race attack comps and I heard good things about the road attack 2 so I thought I would acquire perspective.

Please post photos, I've not heard of these tires.

Thanks for sharing!

Michael

I had the original Conti Road Attacks a couple of years ago, they were great--I'd be quite willing to try the new version!

One question, though--are these dual-compound tires, like the PR2s, or single compound like the old RAs?

Its not dual. But it is softer on the sides than the center. The use magic to achieve this.

Here is my review on every tire I've ridden:

"Excellent grip til it reached half-life, then not as good with age/mileage, so I replaced at 1/4th tread remaining before wear bars were gone." :laughing

I got 13,000 miles out of a set of Conti Trail Attacks on my V-Strom 650, those were good tars! And the Road Attack is also available in the trailie-tourey 19-inch front Strom size, hmmm.....

Okay here is an update after over 2k miles.
The rear feels like its starting to loose its awesome in the wet. I ride pretty aggressive in the rain and initially when I got these tires the rear handeled great in the wet. Although this was at slower city speeds. Recently I've been feeling the rear skidding out a bit at higher speeds. Most people wont take an onramp on cold tires in the wet at 70something so maybe they weren't designed for that but I also feel like it might have something to do with the tread pattern not channeling enough water. Like im getting a bit hydro plaining. Ive had a suspition before about continentals compound doesnt handle heat cycles well. I noticed this on my contiforce sm tires. Could be a tire pressure issue. When it wet I keep the tires at the bike reccomended psi and in the hot I go a pound or two lower.

The tires however remain awesome in the dry. And the front hasn't failed me in the wet except going over tar snakes.(why can't they mix the tar up with sand or something.)

I would still reccomend these tires and I still think highly of them. But im holding off on my verdict of them being bad in the rain at high speeds untill I fiddle with psi and suspension setting.

Bummer when that 'my tires don't feel so new anymore' thing happens ;)

you should just install the front tires in the rear and you will have sticky tires on both sides

I found them to be vague and heavy steering. Worst handling tire I've ever tried.

Any input on PSI?

I am running a new set on a Caponord. have about 150 miles on them. Rear seems to be slippery when leaning into turns, not very confidence inspiring.

I ran them at 35 / 37 out the door and as I mentioned the rear seems to be like an ice cube on a griddle, thats at 35 / 55 or 75 mph and not agressive on turns.

I have upped to 36 / 42 but think perhaps not much improvement... and I have to admit I'm a bit skittish now. Front seems OK, but rear just does not seem like it's stuck unless going straight.

Some folks have said to to 32 / 34.

I'm a big guy (260#) and its a big bike (500#).

Thanks for any feedback.

Cheers.

This is an interesting review, I might want to look into some tires like this at some point.
Whats the best price a set can be had for?

Also matt, I don't have experience with these specific tires or anything so you could wait for someone else to chime in but I think something worth checking is your alignment on the rear tire? Figure it couldn't hurt and getting it right can make a noticeable difference.

I highly recommend the Dunlop Roadsmarts, I have decades of ridding experience and consider myself a tire junkie. I've found these to be the best touring tire out there, for me at least.

Here a tire review I did some time back: Tires, Tires, Tires

I'm running the old street Attack on the front and had a Pirelli Diablo on the rear. Had the front at 35 to start and it felt very hard and would not grip so I lowered to 32 and it was fine running a fast street pace. That's on my 750. Its my first time using that front and its now at half tread.

Thanks - I will check that out. She tracks straight - but your very right, a little off-set goes a long way!
