Cyberpunk 2077

I haven't built a PC in 20 years (Voodoo 3 3000 FTW) but what is it with these graphic cards that make them so hot? I just saw a video on Reddit where it was a mob scene at a computer store in Texas to get these cards. I mean full on Black Friday riot kind of crowds. What gives? Is it just a super limited supply? Are there really that many PC gamers these days?

I think a big part of it is that there are so many good titles out right now that greatly benefit from the new tech on these cards, DLSS for one, not too mention the raw power to push frame rates at 2k and 4k. Combined with Eth mining being profitable again (even at high energy rates), Covid AND a massive semi conductor shortage and there just isn't enough hardware to go around.
I'm actually torn over selling vs keeping my 1070 now. It's got amazing resale value, but it's still earning pretty well too just sitting there mining.

The cores in current GPUs are doing so much heavy lifting in so many applications. They help me with my video editing work, gaming, crypto mining, live video production, and a ton more other applications. It's no surprise they're scarce.

True, I sometimes forget that there are 'other' uses for them

I experienced basically no glitches with the exception of one small mission on PC and I 100% the game. Well worth playing in its current state on PC at least.

Alright, what I'm hearing is that since I have the hardware I need to buy it, even if the sale price is still high. Fine, next time it comes up under $50 I'm in.

I actually bought a new gaming laptop just before COVID with the intention of playing this thing when it came out, which is a big deal, because I don't really play much video games. The release was such a shitshow from what I could observe from friends that I just sort of wandered off and never bought it.

You feel like it is patched enough to be a thing, huh?

Nope. Too buggy at this point. Plus, my GPU doesn't have ray tracing so what's the point? LOL

I'm playing on PS4. I have no clue if it's the same issues across all platforms.

But does it work well enough to not get on your nerves?

When I played it on release, I literally could not get passed an early part of the game because it was so bad. This isn't my first game that's been pretty buggy when when the bugs actually stop me from progressing, it's time to put it down for awhile. Didn't even wanna start over to see if that changed anything

Playstation actually issued refunds for the game. That's a huge statement.

Review videos I saw on youtube were about numerous glitches but the game was still playable.

I'm currently playing a game on Steam that was made by two independent developers from Russia and that game was less buggy on release.

I mean any reviews of the gameplay itself have been mostly positive so I'll be happy to get into again, I might even check this weekend to see where it's at now on PS4.

I was just butt hurt because if the game is that bad with problems that they had to issue refunds, why release it? It was also removed from the PS Store. I didn't take the refund because I figured I liked what I saw, what it can be and can just wait. Deleted it though since it took up so much space but I still own the rights so I should be able to re-download it when I'm ready.

The excuse I hear is that COVID impacted their ability to test it widely on last Gen platforms. Don’t think I’ll buy that since other devs have beta tested products just fine remotely.

If that's their 'official' statement, fine. But yeah not sure I buy that.

Anyway, I don't need to rant on it all night. It is what it is. I do enjoy hearing more opinions from you guys. Especially realizing that the rest of you are all playing on PC setups and doesn't sound nearly as bad as my experience. I don't trust youtube reviewers to not be disingenuous with their videos most of the time and this is the most discussion from 'normal' people I've seen, so I'll keep reading. :teeth
