Digital SLR / DSLR Camera Question / DSLR Thread 2

Thanks. I'll use it too often for that. But it is a good idea to see what might be worth tracking down.

Well, that sounds luscious ) Looking at Wikipedia's list though, there's a couple more that could work:

24mm f/2
28mm f/2

24mm f/1.4
28mm f/1.4

I'd also take other brands like the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 (fast enough, maybe wide enough). I'm afraid I really need to go to a full-frame & faster camera.

Yeah, it's a long shot, but hey.

I'd be down to try my hand at snapping a few pics, but I'm going to be at Miller, keeping our Camaro in the front of the herd.

A bit off topic, but still related to photography...
There are two black carpeted pedestals available to anyone who will take them away.
They are square, with a top area about 3ft x3ft. I'd say they are about 12-18" high.
Tops are black carpet, sides are painted semi gloss black.
They are located at 2205 ringwood ave, san jose.

I'll take them off your hands if you don't want them. I can swing by this evening on the way home.

Let me know. :thumbup

They're outside of a tradeshow booth design building. (something they built awhile ago, but have been sitting for a couple years now) I went there today to drop off our camaro for a vinyl wrap, and saw them sitting outside with a 'free' sign. I asked about them and they said to take them away on my trailer if I wanted to.

I wanted 'em, but really have no place for them. So I thought one of you guys might have a use. They're there, and up for grabs to whoever gets there. :thumbup

Thanks for the heads up. I'll try to grab them on the way home if they're still there.

Well, shit: I'm losing my 'studio'. My friends GF is moving in, so no more empty 4-car garage to use as a free studio.

Anyone know of any affordable spaces to rent near San Jose? Like, <$50 an hour kind of affordable?

Went to the Big Fresno Fair and borrowed my buddy's Canon t2i, intending to shoot a car/moto fundraiser on Sat.

Rented a Tokina 11-16 f2.8

I usually shoot with my Nikon D5000 or D50

Here are a few shots

Dunno what I coulda done better. I was shooting in Av. Didn't mess with Manual mode as it was my first time out with the t2i.

till next time. Cheers!

looks good to me. i love my tokina 11-16. the zoom is a bit stiff (not sure if always like that and i just got used to nice nikon zooms, or if its just getting stiffer) but works well

Anybody looking for a Nikon 85/1.4? I'm selling mine, it spends far too much time sitting in the camera bag right now to justify the ~$1k I've got tied up in it.

Amazing piece of glass, but it rarely matches up with my particular shooting style. :)

Some pictures I've taken with it: http://nickdavis.zenfolio.com/p987095837

Of course you'd show up :facepalm :love

Did you find an app that alerts you whenever a picture of you appears on the internet or something? :laughing :p

i really like the 85 1.4, i just think it would 'feel' better on a full frame camera. awkward focal length for me on crop body

580EX, or 430EX, that is the question?

The 580 has a slighly nicer UI, a bit more power, but it's ~$500 after tax, basically. Also, doesn't appear to shoot backwards, only 90 degrees left/right.

The 430 has buttons instead of scrolly wheel, less power (but still good) and faster recharge at full-power, but that might simply be a function of it having lower max output... it definitely does do 'behind', and it's ~$330 after tax.

I'm leaning toward the 430, because I'm not sure I need THAT much range, and I know it does rearward shooting.

However, if the 580 does indeed do rearward, then, it has that extra 'headroom' of more power, and the scrolly wheel interface that I'm very used to.

Both interface some functions with the 5D Mk2, both since E-TTL II as slaves from either flash as the master.
