Digital SLR / DSLR Camera Question / DSLR Thread 2

oh, a 5.6 is not too bad to handhold, I still normally would use a monopod with it though. Matters what sort of shot your doing

Just checking back in to restate how much I fucking HATE that fake miniature look, and will be biding my time while the fad passes.

Thank you, that is all.

Gah, next you'll be saying you don't like the fake HDR that realtors seem so fond of!

:rofl

On a new topic. Canon mirrorless. Nikon mirrorless.

Neither using micro 4/3. Fucking assholes.

That is all.

So on the BARF Hawthorne Rally, I plan to sneak out after the beer wears off and see if I can capture the Milky Way. Any tips? Someone told me to use high ISO and shutter at less than 30 seconds. Any other tips weather permitting?

Not bad. Nikon doesn't cripple their low-end lenses like some manufacturers. What are you planning on using it for?

Want more zoom then that kit lens gives me, hoping to nab better shots from the stands at races and to be able to focus in on things I see so when I get home I'm not trying to figure out what the hell I was taking a picture of.

I like the bigger one you recommended, what's the diff in a 55-300 to a 70-300... what do you lose/gain??

I was kinda digging your soft focus look. :p

You lose another couple hundred dollars from your bank account and some room in your camera bag.

You gain better quality glass, better focus speed, better VR system, better construction (metal vs plastic, weatherproofing, etc).

The 70-300 is also compatible with full-frame cameras, should you ever go down that road.

Also also, 200mm is not nearly enough for shooting motorcycles.

Koi. Those large F-stop numbers is why it is so cheap. General rule of thumb is to get the lowest f-stop you can get for the buck. It's not so much the zoom..but the light that it lets into the camera. This is what the f-stop # will tell you.

:thumbup

Thanks guys! My eyes are bigger then my bank account this check, but next payday, I'm thinking of upgrading my zoom capabilities.

Needed a lightweight travel tripod for an upcoming trip. I needed one that wasn't more than the damn camera is worth (I know you can easily spend $700-1200+ on these) so I opted for the Induro carbon CT series and their standard ball head, the tripod is only 2 pounds and goes to about 5'. I know they're not top of the line by any means but I read some solid online reviews and at around 420.00 for both, I'm hoping it's a good compromise between cost and quality. I also hope they're sufficient for supporting my T2i with battery back and 17-40L, since i didn't check the weight. I read the setup is fine for full frame cameras and everything short of longish lenses so I should be fine. Anyone have experience with these products? (It's not too late to return)

Yep. Unfortunately for us Nikon shooters, there aren't any options between all the 4.5-5.6 variable zooms and the f/2.8 big glass. Canon makes a couple of mid-range f/4 zooms that are professional quality, but not as bulky or expensive as the 2.8's.

It is with the right credentials...
