Moab is wearing us down. I heard someone say yesterday, "I am not going to ride tomorrow." Some planned easy rides. A quadtard planned a ride on his SportQuad, which is not epic Moab dirt biking. Lunch Box did a street ride, which is not epic Moab dirt biking.
A core group of badass MF'ers planned to do Poison Spider trail. And Jackson tagged along.
We stopped at the Indian petroglyphs along the river. A tourist told us they depicted alien astronauts but I swear that big one looks exactly like South Park's characterization of Satan.
From the Poison Spider staging area we could look across the Colorado river valley and see the Kane Creek staging area from our previous trip to Hurrah Pass/Chicken Corner.
Looking the other way was the cliff side of Poison Spider mesa, which we would climb.
There were some difficult obstacles right away. I took a hard route and fell when my tire went sideways. It should have hooked up. I would return and get my revenge on the way back.
The rock obstacles did not have traction like "slickrock" and much of the rock had a layer of sand. Both AnyTwoWillDo and I dropped tire pressure in the hope of gaining traction.
One of the less difficult climbs did have a steep end you couldn't see over. Eric B wheelied over it only to find a small, full "hot tub" for an epic fail into the water. He picked it up before I could whip out my still camera but I have it on my helmet cam for viewing later.
The rock obstacles did not have the traction of slickrock and were polished by 4x4s. Much of it had a layer of fine sand which made things very, very difficult.
I stopped at a climb to see Jackson at the top of an obstacle, waving me to an easy bypass. I had a second look. There was a shallow V with sand, doable, and the sides of the V looked easily rideable. It wasn't even steep or bumpy. Just a little off camber, no problem for even my worn trials tire. Maybe it's a problem if you wore your tires on the fire road to Hurrah Pass.
I think there were four major climbing obstacles before we got up on a flat section where the trail turned into a road.
The views were good.
We came from that way.
We did a bunch of slickrock and some sand, which was a lot like Slickrock bike trail. I circled a hole like I was getting flushed down a toilet and that may make for some interesting video later. The others were sure confused about what I was doing.
We intersected with the Portage bicycle trail at the rim above Moab.
With a little more slickrock we took a break in a cave with a group of SxS. When they left I took this picture from the inside looking out.
We did a little of Golden Spike trail, I think, more slickrock, with cool uphills and downhills, including one amazing G out. We returned to the trucks when Jackson whined about being tired.
