Do you wear a watch?

Regardless of how wealthy I was, I'd be nervous about wearing really high end watches above say $20,000 in value. SOme watches are $300,000-$1,000,000 dollars. I mean, you slam your arm the wrong way and it's a $25,000 repair job.

How much do you want to spend? It’s tough if you don’t want another Seiko.

Around $500 if possible since I'm looking for a casual watch that will be involved in nerf gun fights, playground shenanigans, and chasing my kids around on our bicycles. Around $1K only if it's super awesome :).
I've been eyeing the Tissot visodate (white) for a while now, but it's another semi-casual watch just like my SARX017.

How about Archimede Outdoor? It’s comparable to the Hamilton, has a Swiss movement, and a cleaner look, but at the same time more unique. Almost a little Omega Speedmaster.

At around 1k, how about a Sinn 556?

I did look at the Sin 556, it's very nice indeed but it's a little pricey for "with the kids" purposes. The Archimede Outdoor is really cool, looks like I could buy a used one for a good price vs ~$900 brand new.:thumbup
thinking about it more, closer to $500 is ideal because it's not the end of the world if something goes awry when I'm out and about.

So here's an issue. With a multi-thousand dollar watch, if you service it with a 3rd party say every 5 years, the watch is still worth far more than the amount you put into service.

A cheap $300 mechanical watch like my Russian watch has had more than $300 in maintenance put into it thus far.

Some watch price points are not "worth it" if you intend to keep them forever.

FYI if anyone needs a great watch maker you mail your watches to ,let me know, Been dealing with the company for over 10 years. THey've done my Omega twice and my Russian once.

How about a Vostok Amphibia. Less than $100, reliable, and very unique. A coworker of mine rocks one, and he loves it.

nope for the Vostok. too dive-y. at $100 I'd opt for a Seiko 5 instead...yeah yeah no Seiko was one of the rules :). Archimede and Hamilton look good so far. :thumbup

Personal preference, I'd go for the Hamilton.

hm I like this Hamilton field (H70455863) more than the 1st one I posted. dark green face is nice. In some pics it looks black, not this one:

Holy wow that Sinn 556 looks awesome. What a clean striking, and... wow wait a second, a very German and stodgy design... : | :laughing ;)

I agree the second hamilton looks better too..

My new Hamilton arrived, khaki field automatic :teeth. For whenever I'm out w the kids etc. I'm already eyeing my next watch lol, the Sinn 556I B.

Recently bought my first somewhat pricey watch (~$4k) as a pre-retirement present, a TAG Heuer Carrera. Was really nervous about spending that much on a watch as I don't have any pricey clothes or fashion stuff, but I'm glad I did. Really, really like it. I have two older cheaper TAG Heuers that I've had for a long time and they've both been bulletproof, so I figured I'd stick with them.

My only complaint with Heuer is that the replacement bands are so expensive. I snapped the loop on my old Formula 1's plastic/rubber band and a new one was $250 for it. Nucking futs. Took me almost two years before I broke down and bought a replacement.

I bought my friend a $50 Invicta dive style watch for her birthday, the band broke, it was honestly easier and faster to buy her a new one (I lied and said they warrantied it) than to figure out where to buy a $10 metal band and have it switched.
