DRZ400SM tire recommendations?

so i dont wana sound like a newwb but my contis say "tubeless" but iv never run tubless with any spoked wheel. what do you guys do, keep a tube in them? i just didnt know if it would affect how the bead seats on the wheel. probably wont be running my contis for along while since this past weekends clobberknocking of a cutoff-to-through a window-to-the ground eppisode on blossom hill, but just woundering thoo

So I ended up with a set of Shinko 140s on the reccomendation of one of the guys down at Santa Clara Cycles who also rides a drz. I'll keep you posted on how they turn out.

Any one have a few good pointers on breaking them in?

Scatter a box of 500 1/2" Romex staples on the ground and then run over them until there are at least 26 in each Shinko.

After all that, you bought essentially the cheapest tires that you could find?

:rolleyes

If you dont mind me asking how much did you pay for Shinko's? And why Shinko's when you got Michelin, Bridgestone, Dunlop and Conti's that carry 140?

I've never tried Shinko's have ridden with guys on them that haul ass. I might try them on the rear casue i dont mind if they slip and slide I don;t think I will ever put them on my front. Its a mental thang not so much tire performance. I have nuff to worry about riding I dont need to worry if the front is gonna fail me. Thats why I only run 211's up front. Rear whatever namebrand is on sale. DID YOU GET SHINKO FRONTS TOO? The guy that sold them to you, does he ride SM on his DRZ or just commute?

Take it easy first few miles, go find yourself local twisties put your balls to the gas tank and ride. Remember you gotta get the sides warmed up and scrubbed in too. Just cause you rode 20 miles on freeway doesnt mean you can ride the edges unless you like slipping and sliding. Which you must cause you got a SM.
Let me know how those Shinko's work for you.

I don't mind... I only got the rear and it was about 90 bucks... It really came down to the guy selling them. He rides a drz400 as well and has always been super helpful and never steered me wrong. He mentioned they'd be pretty good for all year round as well. I ride rain or shine, so all around performance was my priority.

I'll keep you posted about how they turn out... Should have them broke in by next week.
