Eerily accurate quiz about your American dialect

Said I am from Vegas... Interesting since I was born and raised in SF, and did some travelling but never settled in Vegas. Oh well, I guess there has to be some bad hits from it.

not even close:thumbdown

but, then again...i grew up in california, was raised by by a woman from tampa bay, and then by various others in my early teens!

translation: this survey is not meant for people like me who weren't raised in one hole their entire life:laughing

I apparently confuse the damn thing.

I've from coastal GA as are both my parents. Talking to my dad requires a redneck to English translator. My mom gets teased for her southern accent and has had several of the doctors give her shit for "sounding dumb" at Children's First where she is doing Pedatric Oncology and Hematology in Salt Lake City because of her usage of "y'all" and fixin' or fixin'ta.

I've been living with a bunch of California and Minnesota natives for the last few years so maybe that is throwing things off.

My childhood was split between Statesboro, GA and Savannah, GA then lived in Charleston, SC for a year before moving here.
:party

Since the map link appears broken.

Columbus, GA, Jacksonville, FL and San Jose, CA???????

Map had deep red around southern and coastal GA, northern FL and stretching to coastal LA with a splotch of red for NM and then dark red in San Jose trailing off in a tear drop shape toward Gilroy and inland a bit.

It places me in Glendale and I am not even Armenian! :laughing

It also thinks I am from Honolulu, HI :wtf Brah!

The very first question had me in Pittsburgh, Pa-where I was born.
Then it spread me all over the map, I have lived all over the U.S.
It ended with the whole map being brown.

Spent my first 17 years in the Pittsburgh area, the test showed that, along with Rockford Ill. and Des Moines IA. Kind of strange, never spent any time in Ill. or IA. Been living dahn sahth for quite a while, apparently haven't picked up the lingo.....

Triangulated me pretty well (grew up right outside Chicago city limits) Madison, WI. Milwaukee, WI. and Aurora, IL is what it came up with.

Took it again, got a couple different cities, but you draw a line between them and it pretty much goes right through Chicago.

I was just in Asheville two weekends ago. I could totally live there one day. Must try Troy and Sons Moonshine and Highland Brewery if you're ever there. :thumbup

Asheville is a very cool town, it's wild to have such a conservative region with a city/beacon of artistic liberal light shining brightly to draw in the misfit moths and give them a place to mingle. The microbreweries are taking off too I hear but this is news to me as I left that area over 20 years ago.

And the motorcycle roads where I grew up, SO GOOD. Really good, that's the area where Honda formerly held their "Honda Hoot" riding event.

Still amazing that this dialect quiz can ask such few questions and pinpoint within a few hundred miles exactly where I learned to speak. :thumbup

OK fess up, who the hell picked choice 2,3,4, or 5 to this? Those choices are fucking retarded! :laughing

The first time I ever heard of of these terms was while taking the quiz. I chose second to last choice.

That was interesting. I took the test again, about six questions were different, and now I'm Glendale, Scottsdale, and Chandler Arizona. Ain't no blue on the map.

I took it three times, and it gave me Rockford/Chicago/Aurora each time. First 25 years of my life were spent in Chicago, and apparently 24 years in CA hasn't erased that.

After hearing the City referred more & more as San Fran -- it's probably a techie attempt to differentiate themselves from the locals -- I find myself using Frisco a lot more, mostly to mess with the transplants.

San Fran? You've got to be fuckin' kidding me! :twofinger
I usually hear "The City," and you can actually hear the capital T.

This. There's only one City. SF.

I picked #3...the devil is beating his wife. Born in Memphis and raised in Memphis and north MS.

My 3 results were Birmingham AL, Jackson MS, and Columbus GA.
