Energica is done

Well you can't compare Energica to like Sur Ron. Energica is a superbike manufacturer. Their bikes aren't cheap and they are cutting edge. You see Stefano Mesa racing in the super hooligans race. But there lies the problem their too expensive for most peoples. That's how Sur Ron has thrived is they sell cheap and in large quantities where Energica is the other spectrum. Even comparing to Zero, the Energica is more exotic.

Plus the whole kids aspect, you can get a Sur-Ron for $3800 that gets your kids outside. That's a huuuuge segment for them as kids with Sur-Rons generate more kids with Sur-Rons.

I mean just look at the financials of Livewire. The company makes twice as much revenue from the Stacyc kids balance bikes that the Livewire Motorcycles add to the balance sheet.

Small urban mobility to move units in Asia and Africa is the standard right now.

Honestly, I don't know how I'm going to make it if the entire segment of "Full Size" electric motorcycles goes dormant for a decade. After owning this Experia for a year there is no gas bike that will do it for me. Like when I first got into motorcycles, Corvettes and Lambo's just couldn't trip my trigger anymore.

Maybe Zero will get on board with DCFC, or Maybe Verge or Damon will materialize from the vapor, or maybe someone picks up the ball and runs with Energica IP and tech. The Energica CEO ,Livia Cevolini, said it's much more cost effective to buy an insolvent company than a running one. So maybe there is still some wisp of hope.

Regardless, If I'm stuck scrounging the scrap pile for bikes that I like I can probably pick up donor bikes and project bikes for cheap. :teeth

Developing a serious full size e-bike from scratch takes big money and needs to sell for big money, except the segment is way too niche for now, so really only the big five have the ability to eat those costs and live with poor returns, which they're not doing it because there's not much incentive for it. But, swapping out cordless drill batts for your kids to play in the backyard pretty safely? That's amazing for kids and parents and the category of "kids and parents" is massive. Even still, Stacyc isn't what it was with all the competition now. I'm sure their margins are a lot more boring these days, but they're able to overcome it by being in a segment large enough to support some competition.

Everything is getting better and heading in the right direction, like if you wanted to start your kids on something, it's kind of a no-brainer, it's going to be electric. Eventually, that will creep into more and more segments, but it's probably going to be 5-10 years before the 80-112cc bikes are equally as much a no-brainer. IMO, you just need to enjoy what's there for as long as you can keep it going. Anyone itching for electric shouldn't wait for it to be cheap and mainstream, because they'll probably be too old to enjoy it by then. Just buy it now knowing that these companies are going to fold and you'll need to get creative with parts, a hobby within a hobby.

So the auction to liquidate the company is being set up for the end of January. It's looking likely the whole company will be sold as a single lot.

Minimum bid is like $5 million (4.25 Million Euro) The Base Auction price, whatever that is, is 5.7 Million Euro.

That doesn't seem like a lot of money to buy all the debt of a company.

Not sure what all comes for that price, I bet all of their components were outsourced or the CNC stuff was leased so....
Kinda reminds me when Alta went under.... (some parts ended up for sale on CL and other places....)

You get the whole company. All the IP, future designs, R&D, Parts inventory etc.

Plus you're no longer beholden to Ideanomics.

I don't want to get my hopes up, but getting a turnkey company with pretty full list of government fleet backorders for that kind of price seems like a good starting point for the next chapter. Maybe it will be acquired by the likes of Ultraviolette, Maeving, or something like that.

I don't see a major OEM like Royal Enfield, Hero or one of the big four acquiring it since they probably already have a direction they want to go.

Something something Alta, Brammo, BRD, Vectrix, cake, Arc...
And many more

I find it amazing that zero marches on still
Brammo Was Just But Ugly!
And the brammo girls had constant makeup problems...

What do you mean the Brammo was ugly? It was a work of art. Looks better than the Zeroes.

That's the price for leading the market. Energica had a motogp race championship. Their bikes are the best in terms of technology to everything else. Superbike power and DC fastcharging that you can actually buy.

Well the auction ended, no bidders

Now there will either be another auction with a lower minimum bid or they start the component sell off.

Eicher paid $50 million for a 10% stake in Stark, now do the math on that and then compare to the non-sale of Energica for $4.5 million. Obviously not 1:1 with the product, but it still has meaning as a marker. Standalone e-manufacturers are drunk on their sales potential and so are their investors.

I believe he is referring to Zero motorcycles, the manufacturer. They are still plugging away while so many others have folded. My local PD purchased more of their bikes for their patrol guys. Seem like a good company, reasonable growth vs. letting HD or random equity company buy them out and then sucking them dry only to close shop.

Sad

Better get your stark varg order in before its too late!

I would never buy an electric vehicle of any type unless I had extra money to throw down the toilet.

They depreciate like luxury cars, which of course buying a new luxury car actually is for people that have extra money to throw down the toilet.
