Eureka Trip 3/13-14/04

damn, I miss that place. I had a cabin on the salmon river which runs into the Klamath. I love that area.

Awesome! I can see how you miss it. When I was a kid, I spent many summers at my folks property on the Trinity. I love that area.

Tim, those are some sweet photos...glad you had a great ride....we are so lucky to live in an area with such great roads....i just got back from 3 days in Chicago...when I got there friday morning it was sunny, but about 25 degrees....and if you throw in the wind chill it was even colder....come to think of it....I didn't see one bike out the entire time I was there!

I'm jealous. REALLY jealous.
Was the perfect weekend for that ride, and all the roads you named are among my all time favorites. I know what you mean about no traffic, a few years ago I camped out along the river, in the summer, on a weekend along one of those roads...I had the entire campground to myself! I wish it wasn't so far away, but it's worth the ride! Was there gravel or sand on any of the roads? Any run-off from the snow? I hope to make the trip back soon. Thanks for the pics!

There was still a little sand on Hwy 36, so I had to be careful on parts of that road. Also, along 36 near one of the summits, there was snow all along the side of the road.

I took a side trip off of Hwy 299. From Hawkins Bar, just south of Willow Creek, there is a road to a small hamlet called Denny. It's about 16 miles, with beautiful views along the way. But I got about 6 miles up the road and decided to turn back because there was increasingly so much sand on the roads that I was having too many "whoops" moments.

Frickin A dude. Let's do a rode trip!!!!

After your done carting Anthraxkid off to Death Valley. Let's plan a group ride this way so you can be Anthraxkids age again.

Sounds and looks like it was a blast. Keep enjoying it my friend....keep enjoying it. Yes, I'm Jeoulous also. Beutiful in what you captured for us. Thank you so much for sharing and taking the time to capture your AWESOME ride.

I hate you even more *smile*. (A form of envy -- For sure!)

Damn man that looks awesome. If I wasn't so tired from Saturday's ride, I'd go up there now... Job? What job?

Great Pics!
Missed ya but it looks like ya had a fine time.
Thanks for the view:cool

what can i say Tim. awesome photos! looks like you really had a great time. thanks for sharing and i'll see ya when i get back:teeth

Thanks guys! Frankly, I don't think you can do these roads without spending at least 3 days: one for the trip up, and at least 2 to explore the roads. My preference would be to at least do 4 days. Weaverville is a great central point for everything.

Also note, if you plan on camping, no problem, but if you need a motel for the night, you'd better be on the 101 side or the 5 side, because motels are few and far between on these roads. Pretty sure 36 between 101 and 5 doesn't even have one and I can't think of any on 96 or 299, but that's not to say there aren't any. 3 might be better as it's a kind of alternative to highway 5.

Thanks for the Pics Tim. Next time your up this way drop me a line and I'll be happy to ride the area with you. We do 299 most weekends for a lunch ride.
Glad you had a good time,
Lonster

Thanks, Lonster, I'll definitely do that.

And, Ezekiel, there are motel accommodations in Weaverville, possibly also in Willow Creek. Weaverville is a great central location, but you can come from Red Bluff, Redding, Eureka, or Fortuna areas as well.
