everybody's cholesterol level

I was always a hard gainer too, never eat enough. but was always proud of my good shape. then years go by and it actually started showing around the gut. at least not much to deal with, whew, some are carrying around the equivalent of another person. flaxseed oil, forget those little caplets you gonna' have to buy a big bottle of the stuff, same as fish oil. that what one of my old sport med trainers told me. I just need to eat more fish, period (and watch the salt). drink milk, more proteins, lift weights, same here! I no like lift weights though so doing body weighted stuff. you ever thought of kickboxing? not that it has anything to do with this.

i drink an assload of milk and soy milk. i love cereal too for both the taste and because it has a bunch of minerals.

i havent thought of kickboxing because my legs are weaker. most of my weight is up top. i have always wanted to box though. skinny legs, strong upper. not sure i can take the beating though.

is that you in the picture up top? you ever box?

yes that me currrently :) box only in class never competively. I suggested the kickboxing as you can capitalize on your strengths of youth, light weight and speed. it will build your legs up too, not like a bodybuilder but like a thai. ok, time to go and blow the diet sometimes can't help it :p it's hump day. ttyl!

nice! looking good:thumbup looks fun. i wanna take a boxing class. i should do more stuff to capitalize on my youth... like you said. i love it.

do it while you're young!!! I think climbing is almost the same (w/o the getting your ass kicked part), it's all you and only you (not talking belaying). you go up that hill and you gotta' come back down.

You in Fremont, lucky, just swing over to San Jose and go to Cung Le's gym for an intro class. Don't worry they won't kill you, you new so starting from square one the basics and pad works. I'm advising you or anyone else to take advantage of this now and share this story. when I was a teen I had a wish to beg my way into Sigung Lee's kwoon. it had moved to Oakland though so made things impossible for this youngster (no bart). then before we knew what hit us he was gone forever. you have the chance now with Cung.

otherwise check local 24 hour type gyms and what classes they have and monitor a class see if you like any. boxing is a staple of most gyms now and not talking about taebo/kwando but classical boxing workouts with the mitts, heavybag and speedbags, the real deal. check it out.

I hope I jazz you up. The feeling is nothing till you are wrapping up and getting it on :teeth If I was there I'd go with ya', I got some barfers into classes before and think they all had fun. :thumbup good times :)

I am 31 years old, 5'10", 170 lbs.
My chol. is 285. I eat a pretty healthy diet and exercise, but it's still high. It's been high since I was 18 years old. The doctor says the main factor is genes, but of coarse food and exercise play a role.
My blood pressure is about 160/75. I'm on meds for that. Again, I have shitty genes.

wow. both high cholesterol and high bp. that sucks. you gotta take the meds everyday for the rest of your life?

High chol. can lead to high blood pressure.

Yeah, I'll take the meds for the rest of my life or until I can lower the levels and sustain that without meds.

I had a boss a couple years ago that had a chol. level of 400!
He was also about 400lbs.! Since then he got his stomach stapled.

Harry, what's your sugar and fiber intake like? There was some research linking Fructose intake with high cholesterol.
I'm guessing the dairy is what's pushing it up, but without knowing exactly what you're eating, I couldn't really say, sorry.

i guess you can say i take in a lot of sugar. i always figured it was the fat and sodium that helped build up the cholesterol, but i do know that a lot of sugar leads to fat. my diet is pretty weird. i basically eat whatever i can get my hands on.. healthy or not. but i do, consciously, stay away from fast foods and eating excessive fat. and i do try to eat a lot of vegetables and fruits. im pretty certain im taking in a lot of sodium as well. :(

wow. that's one of the reasons i dont want to go back to get my cholesterol checked. i dont want meds for the rest of my life. especially not at this age.

Meds should be a last resort. Nowadays with Pharmaceutical companies pumping up their marketing and scaring everyone into thinking they need their product to live a normal life. Blah. Unless you have some off the chart/abnomal chol count, I wouldn't turn to drugs.

Just watch what you eat, it's fairly simple. Damn i'm smart.

what sucks for me is that im in good shape physically. i have really high metabolism still and at the same time im trying to gain some weight. so i eat a lot to try to gain weight (doesnt work). not necessarily fat. but just anything. i gotta start choosing better foods i guess. it's time for some barry bonds "flaxseed oil" and "arthritic cream rub".

a year ago i got my cholesterol checked out and it was somewhere around 140 which pretty damn good. the last time i was in for a doc's visit, the nurse told me that my bp was a little high at 148/92...but i was in for an std test so i guess that was part of the reason.

overall to stay healthy, i believe that i have 2 of the 3 methods down. i eat relatively healthy...fast food very rarely, no soda, lots of fruits, etc. my only weaknesses are buffalo wings and processed meats which i only indulge in rarely... i work out and do cardio so that's good. the only thing in need to work on is getting enough sleep wihch is next to impossible. getting 6 hrs a night is a good night for me.

i too am a hard gainer, hovering around 150-155lbs... damn fast metabolism. i was once able to get up to 160 by eating whatever and not workign out for 3 months...but no more of that.

oh noes add another to the no-no list, no more processed meats (spam, portagee sausages, etc.) supposed to increase risk of pancreatic cancer :( I chance it 1x or 2x a month though. my heaviest ever was 153 but not a healthy weight at the time. nekkid I am sub 140 currently (skips and jumps around cheering like rocky! :toothless ) Team lightweights Unite! 42 midget warriors vs. lion yeaaaaaahhhhhh!! LOLL

hairy just go get the test. you don't have to take the pills but get diet advice then see how it goes next 6 months. my mom's pre-diabetic so I used her machine once was curious lucky the reading was low. I wish hers was lower too.

max, lose 10lbs and ill gain 10lbs. we'll both be featherweights/ super featherweights? let's box!

:laughing it not me you have to worry about it's the 6' tall long reach guys who are also in the same weight. if I cut 10 more now at this age I think I'd just die. :toothless but fwiw I 5' 6". last night at d&b did that boxing game, it was fun and got to 15th place totally gassed. the mai tai's previous probably didn't help either :p
