Failing MSF riding test

He used to steer a motorcycle like a bicycle.

Much above a walking pace, just like a motorcycle, you counter steer a bicycle also.

Most people don't realize they are even doing it due to the very low weight of the bicycle relative to the rider.

Your going to take it a second time? Why? MSF provides a pamphlet for the course work and the riding test patterns are painted on the concrete. I sometimes go over and ride the patterns just for fun and to remind myself how it seemed so impossible to do a year ago.

Because it's been a few years since I took it the last time. Anytime you hang it up for a few years it's a good idea to start off by refreshing the important things, like how to ride safely. I'm a decent rider but I'm still a bit rusty. It will all come back to me soon enough.

That is very true. However, my father spent too many years getting very good at the slow pace thing on a bicycle. It got in the way of his skills as a motorcyclist until he got interested in the MSF course. It became an asset because now he understands how to use his skills the right way. He has taught me more about how to counter steer than I ever taught myself. I learned to do it without thinking. He taught me to use it when necessary. If you practice you can learn to swerve a motorcycle quickly. You can also learn to push in to a turn at speeds that will often take the immature rider out of the turn and on to the shoulder. It's a skill that comes with practice and having the confidence to stay on the throttle and push your line tighter.
