favorite coffee?

I have been interested to see medium roast coffee come "back" after years of French and other dark. As I really like dark, I am a bit mystified, but once again, to each his own. Whenever I buy coffee out, I always try and patronize local rather than corporate, tho' Peets is sorta always going to be my first choice, due to years and familiarity. But I've noticed that the hipster single-pour places really favor the medium these days....

I tend to stay away from the local mom and pop espresso stands when traveling after having some of the worst coffee in my life at some of those places. I stopped by at one particular espresso stand while traveling that advertised "All Organic Coffee" and some other bullshit so I thought, hey, let's give this a try. Several miles down the road and a few drinks of the espresso and I felt like I needed to pull over and brush my tongue to get rid of the taste. :mad That was the last time I tried a local joint. Now it's *$s or Pete's because I know what I'll be getting.

Well, that's depressing for my anti-corporate support yer local mentality!:laughing

Stop by Kona Joe's if you going to the big Island. If you don't mind spending $60/lbs for coffee try some Trellis Reserve. I shared some with my coworkers about 5 years ago and today they still ask me when I'm going to bring some in again. :laughing I'm like: "You cheap bastards, buy it yourself this time!" :laughing

I have one of those ceramic hand grinders and, although it does a great job, I don't have the patients to to do that every morning so I forked out $100 bucks for a Jurra conical grinder from Bed Bath and Beyond and haven't used the hand grinder since. My next frontier with coffee will be to buy green beans and start roasting my own and experiment.

Thanks for the tips on the Kona!

Yeah, the hand grinder was a gift, so its my weekend routine, It's what gets me out of bed early on saturday morning :) I'll be shelling out for an electric conical burr one of these days...

I have family friends that own a farm in Kealakekua - so luckily, I get a few pounds of the family roast shipped to me every few months. It's great coffee but I don't think it's worth it's weight/price.

Right now the price is being dictated by a stupid beetle...

The best coffee I've ever had was at a Denny's in San Jose, Costa Rica.

Outstanding beans. :thumbup

Heh, good to hear that they're still in business.. I used to stop in for a cup on the way to work, when I lived in SLC ;) (back in the 90's)

(Mocha Java was my fav)

:thumbup:thumbup

Yeah I dig that place. My sister is in Tooele, and I was doing some training for work on and off for 2 years in SLC, so I got hooked on them. Great pastries and beans worth the effort of ordering. :cool

Any recommendations for a light to medium roast? I've been drinking nothing but medium dark to dark roast from Peets, Philz, Moonbeans, and Barefoot. Aeropress.

Peet's, tastes great and shit is just right.

FUCK STARBUCKS! so i pay for a tall latte, that get's me 1 shot of espresso. I then pay for a grande, which nets me two shots of espresso. HOWEVER, if i pay for a venti, I STILL ONLY GET TWO SHOTS OF ESPRESSO?!?!? WTF?!? and then you want MOAR money to give me what should've been in there to begin with?

fuck those fucking fuckers!

you don't go a bar and order a pint only to put it in a normal glass and fill the rest with water do you?

hence why peet's is better. a large has three shots, period. you want an extra shot, that's a quad and i'm cool with paying extra for that.

i swear, i want to start a damn facebook petition or some shit against starbucks for that shit.

Thank you, I did not know that :mad

I always get two add shots anyway, but now I know why peets gets my flippers flappin

We have Peet's and Starbucks at work and I gravitate toward Peet's more often than not. But my favorite coffee is Jamaican Blue Mountain - liquid perfection...

Sounds more like a psychedelic drug than coffee. :laughing

I'm going to shame myself here... publicly.

My current favorite coffee is Starbucks Blond. Yes. It's the best light roast I've had in a long while. I do it Turkish ground with an old school stove top espresso maker. Fuckin delicious with a touch of creme.
