Favorite Old Video Game?

Spent most of my parents savings on this game:

this summer i'll hold a BARF social at my place; and it'll be in "free play" mode :thumbup

i hate spending $ on the little stuff like coffee, eating out, tyres :laughing ; but i dont even blink on a big purchase if its something i really want. if you'd rather have the item than the cash, it was a good buy

Pure gold. Lots of good shit in here. And lots of childhood memories.:thumbup

OMG that is so awesome. How much did that console cost? I might be interested in doing something like that but if it is like 10 grand or something then hellll no.

a Hard Drivin' sit down full cockpit goes for about $500 in working order
the compact 'almost stand up' type are worth 250 to $300 for Hard Drivin'.
that is about what most "vintage" (normal) arcade machines are worth. popular stuff like Star Wars is worth more, and machines that have a moving seat (like AfterBurner) are worth more too of course

keep in mind these prices are if you buy them from some guy in his garage, or some arcade that doesnt want the machine anymore. If you want to source a machine like NOW, there are companies that have them, but the price is crazy... when i first started looking for this machine, i called one of those places... they wouldnt budge on $2300 shipped !!!! F that!!!

Race Drivin' has all the stuff Hard Drivin' has, plus 2 additional tracks, and 4 cars to selected from!! which is super duper cool! because of this, Race Drivin' machines tend to go for at least 30% more than the Hard Drivin' counterpart. and it is quite unlikely you will find one local, so figure in a 2 or 3 hundred for shipping.

i paid $720 for the machine, picked it up in san rafael with a friends truck, within hours of it being posted on Craigslist. i think i REALLY lucked out. it is fully functional aside from the fact the seat wont stay in position (common problem), but i'm working on fixing that. it needs a lot of cleaning up, and a lot of maintenance and a bit of cosmetic dress up, but it is well on its way! it plays REALLY nice and is super fun and mega nostalgic. once you get used to the game and get a sense of speed with in it, it is really amazing how parallel it is to driving a real car! 'cept you can do cool stuff like not let off the gas while shifting :)

Gorf, Karate Champ, and Kung Fu Master would be my top 3 arcade games. In the '80s I threw enough quarters in those 3 games to sink a medium-sized boat. :laughing

I had a thing for Punch-Out as well.

Damn charlie that is badass :laughing If only more car-arcade games included a working clutch.

Oh nice! That's not even close to what I thought those things cost. Inseam to remember there was a "panorama" console of Race Drivin that had three screens in it. I think I'd want that one if I could find it. .....and if the girl would let me put it in the house.

Then using that philosophy, I'm going to shop around for a set of BST's. :thumbup

PS: MACH 3 F**K YEAH!

LOL I never put any of my arcade games on free play! Mainly because most machines don't run in "attract" mode while "free play" is enabled so they're stuck on the title screen the whole time (might lead to screen burn). I also like the whole nostalgia of dumping quarters in the slots. plus it's cool to put your quarter on the edge of the monitor/control panel while waiting for your turn for SF2 :nerd

Nice pick up on the driving cab! I was thinking of getting one but I don't think i could handle the floor space that thing would take up in my living room. I already have a 4-player xmen and a SF2:CE there with a T2 and my potential mame cab sitting in the garage. I'm going to try and sneak in the T2 into the house soon. I hope the SO doesn't notice :teeth

back on topic. favorite games are:

arcade: SF2/SF2:CE, Metal Slug X, Strikers 1945 Plus, Cabal, T2, ms. pacman... i love a lot of the arcade games from the early 80's through the late 90's

console: contra, any super mario game from nes/snes, chrono trigger

PC: tie fighter, free space 2, counter strike, pretty much any blizzard game
