Flight Attendants

I spend a brief period in Incheon airport in South Korea on the way back from Japan a few months ago. Gorgeous architecture and a string quartet playing in the terminal concourse. I was blown away. Actually wished I could have spent more time there.

There's only three airports I can think of that I will actively avoid:

- McCarran International, because I just don't like Vegas, and the city's airport is a microcosm of the whole experience

- Chicago O'Hare, because they have a real trouble with schedules there, and chances are, you will miss your connecting flight.

- Frankfurt Airport, because their regulations on maximum bag weight changes depending on the direction you're going. Up to 100lbs when you're going to Europe, but only up to 32kg on your way home. I've bought more bags in that airport than I care to remember.

I can add two to that list:

Detroit - It's like they just built a runway next to some projects they didn't happen to be using at the time.

Ljubljana - Staffed entirely by miserable angry old commies. The one airport I will never under any circumstances use again.

I'd think that if anyone was going to be laid off, it'd be the person with seniority who's still working the same job, but getting paid more.

Go through two or three lay-offs and you're left with new hires that don't know shit.

Catahy Pacific has the best ever cup of noodles, worth it just to take a long flight and eat as many cup o' noodles as possible.

Atlanta is one of the worst, IMO. It's an outdated, cramped shithole. As is any airport that forces you to board one of those wack shuttle-buses to go from one terminal to another. :rolleyes

My favorites include San Diego and Portland. Relatively simple and clean.

Thanks for recommending an airline where I either have to charter a jet myself, or I need to be an African dictator that routinely checks on his offshore bank accounts.

I think you missed where I said they operated my luthfansa flight.

Privatair operates flights for luthfansa airlines. My tickets were al paid through luthfansa and that's the hub I used by the airlines were operated by privatiar.

I paid a regular coach ticket through Expedia, the cheapest ones could find, and got that airline

OMG! I just agreed with Rel.

What's next? Dogs and cats living together? Mass hysteria?

:shocker

Ditto.

As an aside, the rudest flight attendants I've ever encountered were employed by Lufthansa. I used to fly to Germany regularly with my GF of that time. My GF was the sweetest and most patient person I've probably met to this day. Even she was fuming a few times.

I've had really good experiences in the US; some of the nicest FA's I've met worked for SouthWest :dunno

OP should try flying a russian cargo plane sometime. :party

I flew Aeroflot back in the day. FUCK! Take off straight up, none of this easy climb shit to knock down noise over cities. Smoke and drink like fish. FA's are big women who probably belong to KGB and could kick your ass. They pass around baskets of rolls, beer, cheese and cigarettes. :laughing

The landings were the best. We came into Tegel once (Berlin) and appeared to be landing in a cow pasture. The gear was down, we were 50 feet up and lowering, half the passengers were praying and crossing themselves, and the pilot goes to full power, lifts 200 feet, and comes down a mile further. I've never been as scared on a flight in my life.

My Mom did 43 years as a flight attendant for United.

Flight attendants will Always do good for you if you are polite and not "demanding what I paid for!"

Seems that concept is lost on some people...

I will bet you $1 you do not fly as much as I do. I have had a flight here and there that was unpleasant such as the flight that prompted this thread. For the most part my flights are pleasant. As far as recent travel is concerned I have checked into my Hotel in downtown Dresden ~2 hours ago. SFO to Chicago... complimentary upgrade to 1st class. Chicago to Frankfurt... complimentary upgrade to business class. Frankfurt to Dresden a small 3 row commuter jet. Each flight was reasonable. I had a polite and competent Steward for the Chicago flight, pleasant Stewardesses for the Chicago - Frankfurt - Dresden flights.

The suggestion you seem to ignore is that your behavior / attitude has as much of an influence on your trip as anyone else may. Be it 1" or 5' if you are in the isle you are likely to get hit as someone passes. Don't be in the isle, take a window seat. Is the airline industry the same today as it was in the 1960's? No, but neither are the passengers.

Yea ok you fly more than me. That's great you get upgraded so much, feels good to toot your own horn? My point was not just to bitch about the experience, but to point out the huge difference in FA's quality between American and Asian owned airlines. Like I said, even Air China being one the worst of the Asian airlines, had much better customer service than United. Also, if you get upgraded so much you don't have to worry about such little things when you're sitting in luxury. I've only been upgraded to Cathay 1st class once by luck and it was the single most awesome airline experience ever. I don't have the money to spend $5-6k on a round trip business class ticket, and even if I did I probably wouldn't spend it because its such a ridiculous amount of money just for a nice seat.

lol I actually agree with you here.

I'm sure many of you know already, but flight attendants that work for American based airlines such as United are fat grumpy bitches that should have been put out to pasture a long time ago. The greatest mistake the airlines ever made was allowing them to unionize. They just can't compete with the Asian airlines' customer service.

Usually when I go overseas, I fly either Cathay Pacific or Eva, both top notch airlines with excellent service. This time I had a chance to use Star Alliance miles for a fully paid round trip ticket, saves me roughly $1200 so I said why not. I was going to Thailand so my two flights getting there were operated by Air China, the bottom of the barrel amongst the other Asian long haul providers. I wasn't expecting much but it sure was a lot better than the long leg of my trip using United coming back.

I always book aisle seats for ease of getting up and a little extra room to one side at least. However I'm mindful not to slop all over the aisle or anything. While trying to sleep on the United flight, I swear I was bumped into and awoken almost every time a United flight attendant came sashaying by with her wide loaded fat ass. I would bet they were doing it on purpose even, that's how bad it was. Not once was I bumped into by a passenger, so how was it possible the flight attendants were bumping into me, and that often? I mean I know they got fat asses and but they could at least have tilted some fat lard to avoid me. The side of my bicep was sticking out maybe 1" at the very most and you're telling me they can't avoid that? I started to notice they were deliberately swaying that fatass into me and it was really pissing me off. Not only that but whenever even speaking to them you get a not so pleasant response as if you're really fucking with them or something. Anyways, just wanted to rant and see if anyone else felt the same way about these fat fuck United and American based airlines' flight attendants. I'll be sending a complaint to United as well.

Maybe the flight attendant had a crush on you.:later

I think the point you're missing is that Troy treats people very well (and I'm betting that's a big part of why he's getting upgrades when others aren't- unless they're lucky). He's not rude, condescending, or arrogant. He doesn't expect people in the service industry to be subservient and kowtow/grovel to him. If you were more like Troy, and treated people well, I'm betting you'd be treated much better in return- whether it's at a Denny's or on an airplane. :2cents

I also fully expect this to fall on completely deaf ears! :laughing

Lolz. It's kowtow, tho considering that 954's gripe is with plus size flight attendants, perhaps that's more appropriate.

Hats off to you, you are absolutely correct (on both counts!)! :thumbup

no offense to troy - have never met him, but am sure he is a delight. that said, airlines give their perks (including upgrades) on 'priority' basis. it has little to do with your behavior, and everything to do with how much business you bring the airline. my SO is global services. they get the top priority. standing in line with him once there, will never forget striking up a conversation with another global services traveler - he was like - yeah, they treat you awesome, but you have to live half your life on a plane to get it. living a large part of your life in the air and away from home sucks. and it's a fucked up way to get a decent seat and good service.

Zimi posts. .. :wow

Hard to ignore this thread now.
