Ford Ranger 4x4 vs Honda Ridgeline 4x4

On the subject of truck and truck beds.

This gem just showed up on one of the Tacoma FB groups...

:facepalm
So....how was he supposed to load it? Hanging 8 feet out the bed flopping around? From the bed to 4 feet above the roof like an howitzer? :dunno

I once saw a guy do 12 footers under the truck. Tied to the front bumper and rear hitch.

I like to live dangerously :cool

I see. You must have one of those kinks where you actually get off on getting kicked in the balls over and over.

You just bought the automotive equivalent of that experience. Congrats…I think?

Some people gamble in Vegas, some people gamble with off road vehicles :D

I bought it from an independent repair shop where the amount of service that was done to it right before sale is pretty much equivalent to what I paid for it. :laughing

You sir are a gambler indeed. A supercharged Range is damn nice though when everything is sorted.

There was a shop I knew of that all they did was Jag and Land Rover. Did you buy it from Cerrones European?

The truck is super nice. They did the timing chain replacement, new fluids, new filters, new lower control arms and new brakes (I know they did pads for sure but I think rotors too). Also a bunch of little stuff like bad struts on the hood and rear hatch.

Like I said, I pretty much paid for a full Range Rover refresh and got the truck for free. :laughing

Those things on his roof are roof racks...
With no crossbars, so it would be scratching the paint and possibly denting the roof. Even if he had crossbars think of how short the roof area is compared to the length of the pipe. They'd be flapping around like they were ready for takeoff (looks like ABS to me not black iron). I suppose the solution to that would be to tie it off to the rear bumper and the hood. Or, you know, just strap it to the side like he did.

Those ARE crossbars. They're stowed north-south but it takes seconds to pop out east-west as needed. I have the same ones on my truck.

I'll take your word for it. I don't own a taco and from the pic I don't see any crossbars over the cab of your truck, but I guess they're just not deployed. A lot of vehicles used to just come with the rails and the crossbars were an option.

Works like this.

Mine whistle when they're deployed so I keep them stowed.

Another small truck competitor.

https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a36607631/2022-ford-maverick-specs-revealed/

It'll compete with the Santa Cruz announced a few weeks ago. There are a few tradeoffs, the Hyundai is more powerful comparing both the 2 base engines and the 2 upgrade engines, and has better towing capacity, 3500 and 5000 vs Ford's 2000 and 4000. The Ford has a 2 inch longer bed, 4 ft 4 inch vs 4 ft 6 inch, and the base engine get's a very impressive 40 MPG.

Personally I think that big trucks are ugly, and Ford's choice to convert the looks of a big truck directly to the small truck platform means that this truck as also ugly. However, I'm not sure that really matters much when you get at least a decent chunk of the utility of a truck, with good enough gas mileage and price to be competitive with a Honda Civic.

Damn my bicycle won't even fit in a 4ft bed. Why bother?

Better to just get a SUV or wagon. Way more utility.
