I'm interested in everyone's thoughts on protesting on Freeways and blocking traffic.

Have a solution? Do the police do enough and can they do enough to prevent it?

I'm in Danville and up until now kind of been less impacted by protests. North 680 in Walnut Creek just got blocked in both ways. Likely stay that way for several hours. Doesn't really impact me as I'm not working but the wife is and she works in Walnut Creek. She left at 330 to beat any protests. Also on twitter today there have been targets to downtown danville and the residents.

Any chance Bart would shut down early to prevent protestors from moving around? They aren't all driving to these locations. Most protests are close to bart stops.

Can and should the police do more? With social media, it would look bad them doing anything to people standing and blocking a freeway but I feel something should be done. What about very loud sirens or something?

It would be major censorship and likely never happen BUT if twitter were shutdown that would prevent a lot of this too.

Blocking freeways is one of the few areas of protesting that I think is totally unacceptable. Anyone in a car surrounded by an angry group is being flooded with reasonable fear for their safety, which is going to lead to people getting run over and that's going to lead to people being beaten to death. You also can't interrupt the travel of emergency vehicles as people's lives depend on it. There's a lot more going on out there than Karens in RX350's getting pissed off because they're missing out on 90 Day Fiance.

Right now it's affecting essential workers who are just trying to get home after working their assess off all day.

Blocking freeways will always be a dick move.

Agree with both gents above.

I know my wife would run someone over if she felt threatened. Me..... I am not sure.

Without other options, I think I would not hesitate to proceed though threatening folks while in my cage. Carefully. Unless more throttle was justified. Crazy.

regardless of any other aspect of protesting, i seriously wish people would rethink moving onto a freeway as a pedestrian. it’s an incredibly dangerous thing to do.

years ago i was hit by a semi that was only going about 10mph (long story - i was standing on the side of a long on-ramp and the dude didn’t see me - don’t even ask how i didn’t see him). will never forget the impact though. people were yelling at me to turn around - and when i did, it was too late. i literally got a face full of peterbilt.

Yes, it is terrible, no, there is not a practical way to stop it.

Also, no, nothing will change after these events.

As the saying is paraphrased: If you want to get peoples attention, stop traffic.

Do stupid tricks, win stupid prizes?

Tactical front bumper takedown?

Send granny on freeway with her '70s station-wagon. After the first 10-20 are mowed down, rest will think twice about pulling that gag again.

All these stupid protests are not accomplishing anything! If anything, it's hurting their cause and turning off those who may be supporting them.

Just going to quote this so you can't edit it away...

You're disgusting.

curious that you mention ‘stupid protests’ and ‘it’s hurting their cause’ in the same breath. ‘their’ cause? ffs - listen to yourself. there is no ‘their’. they are us - all of us. that’s the entire. fucking. point.

As a fellow Danvillian, I'm frankly disgusted by this town's reaction. Fuck the fragility and fear. The reactionary police response reinforces all the reasons people are protesting. Freedom doesn't end where your fear begins.
I don't support the looting, but no one paid attention to all of the peaceful protests.
Danville is such an enclave of privileged people. It's time they were scared and took notice of the people who they've been profiting off of for years.
I'm glad to see this quiet little town is actually having to eat some shit for once.

Really? Ok when someone make you or yours eat shit? Careful what you wish for.

I've personally eaten a lot of shit from privileged people in my life already. Glad to eat more if it means people who've had a harder time than I have get a reprieve.
I don't think looted stores and smashed windows are the only answer, but it's noteworthy that people who usually carry on unaffected are finally taking notice.
A high school parking lot filled with cars carrying a minimum $40k price tag, golf ball sized diamond rings filling the local Starbucks, and numerous private golf clubs in a 2 mile radius while people live in sheds and tents in Oakland. Somehow I can't feel bad for an additional delay in someone's commute in the name of a real tragedy.

Sounds like Danville needs some roof Koreans. :sniper
