FZ6 does not start

Thanks. The battery label gives a unit of "CA" which is just nonsense as far as I can tell, so I wasn't sure.

Charging method/rates of Ytz10s type battery spelled out in bottom left of pic.

Took the battery into Cycle Gear and had them load test it, they said voltage was irregular indicating a dead cell.

Brought home new lithium ion battery and installed it:

Voltage Off: 13.75
Voltage On: 13.6ish (drops a bit while it charges capacitors or whatever)
Voltage at Idle: 13.2
Voltage at 4-5k RPM: 14.0

Assuming it holds out another day, going to ride down to Santa Clara and park it in front of Adi and make him check the charging system. I'm worried about this happening again.

. . . but right now I want to go reassemble the thing and ride

You've already checked the charging systems. Those last two numbers look good. Go ride.

14vdc when bike running is a good number.

All should be well.

Make sure that if you put your new battery on a battery tender, you turn off the desulfate mode. Do not use a tender that does not allow you to turn off the desulfate mode.
See http://shoraipower.com/faq
If it's the Shorai LFX, that's a Lithium Iron, not Lithium Ion battery.

They are all lithium ion batteries. Lithium iron is just one type of lithium ion chemistry. These are the most common:

Lithium Cobalt Oxide
Lithium Manganese Oxide
Lithium Nickel Manganese Cobalt Oxide
Lithium Iron Phosphate
Lithium Nickel Cobalt Aluminum Oxide
Lithium Titanate

All are lithium ion batteries.

The above is also an excellent source of info regarding all battery types. And look at the subsection on lithium ion batteries. Lots of good info there.

Also, know that the charging systems in cars and motorcycles are designed for lead acid batteries. The charging requirements for lithium ion are different that those for lead acid.

Turns out I had a bad stator!

After about two minutes of the bike warming up at 5-6k rpm, the voltage drops to about 13.2 and just keeps creeping down as long as we cared to keep a meter on it.

Adi is at least replacing the stator for free. Trying to decide if I want to press him to cover the battery cost.

Bad news is I'm stuck without my bike for another week. :(:(

Interesting that you were seeing 14v when the bike was running (good sign) only to have the voltage drop when bike warmed up.

I guess some stator faults can do this.

Yep. 'Mysterious things electrons......

Good thing you got it sorted so quickly and they replaced the stator for you. If it happened 3 months from now, they might not be as willing.

I took my VFR800 for a ride a few years ago, Vegas to Arizona to Laughlin and back to Vegas, about a 300 mile loop. Parked it in the garage, and the next morning it wouldn't start. Odd click-click-click noises, but no start. I put it on the trickle charger but that didn't help.
Then I took it apart and chased the fuel pump and changed lots of relays before finally swapping a new battery into it.
With the new battery, it started up just fine and purred like only Honda motors do.

There's a certain resistance to puns here on teh BARFs. Some BARFers will tell you to pack up and go ohm. :teeth
