GaryJ Celebration of Life Gathering-Sunday June 10, 2012

Thanks for the update and info, Solomon. I am going to do my best to make it to this.

Have fun (as much as possible) everyone. Wish I could be there myself. Florida's a bit far but if God loves me (I'm told he does, but...) then I'll be living back in California in time for this. Jill, you had an icon in your presence and probably will have the spirit of one in your presence forever. Take care.

I'll be there caging it in the truck, will have tools and stuff for support if needed. Have a good ride guys and be safe. Robert 510 207 8766

I don't know if I will go at this point since I never met Gary in person. His posts on BARF have helped me as a rider. Gary, through his posts helped me with riding during wet weather conditions. I will keep reading his riding during wet conditions posts like the Bible. One of a few people that can translate the how to ride the bike on to paper.

For those of you coming out to the celebration of life, bring some cash if you would like to participate in the fundraiser.

The remaining books that Jill still has will be offered up with a donation jar for you to donate whatever you feel is appropriate. Jill isn't the type of gal to nickel and dime people. But I'm just going to throw out there that Amazon wants $15 for each book.
Sportbiking: The Real World (The Advanced Riders Handbook)
Sportbiking: The Real World 2: Rider & Bike Tuning Handbook

A number of stickers created by SuperMike of Ace Custom Graphics will be available, again for a donation of whatever you feel is appropriate. Some were mentioning prices of $10, $15, or $20 per sticker. Donate whatever you feel is appropriate. If you are not able to attend the event (at the beach or at her house) and would still like a sticker, I'd be happy to mail the requested number of stickers out on my dime if you make a donation to the paypal fund (this is assuming there are leftovers).

Finally, there will be a raffle for some of the bigger items that she won't have use for. Raffle tickets will be sold for $5 each or $20 for 5. You need not be present to win (as taking home tires and stands on bikes would be rather difficult). Just put your name and number on the back of the raffle ticket and place your entries into whatever buckets corresponding to the prize(s) that you are interested in winning. Someone will contact you if you win and are not present. If you do not like to travel Highway 17 frequently, I can take an item won over to my place in San Jose if that might be easier to coordinate a pickup.
Some of the notable items include:
  • Suomy helmet - worn maybe 5 times.
  • Ducati branded helmet - worn once to instruct at a Ducati school.
  • 2 brand new Kawasaki jackets similar to ones that Gary wore (Jill bought extras at the time, but Gary never seemed to want to replace his worn ones with new ones).
  • Craftsman tool chest on wheels with upper box. Comes with whatever tools are still in there and the keys. (Similar to this.)
  • Tap & die set.
  • Front triple-tree pitbull stand. (This kind.)
  • Front fork-lift and rear swingarm-lift stand set.
  • Pirelli ProSlick 120/190 set (NEW)
  • Dunlop Q2 120/190 set (NEW)
  • Dunlop Rain 120/195 (NEW)
  • ZX6R rear rim with rotor. Used Pirelli Rain currently mounted, will come with a matching Pirelli Rain front (unmounted).
  • ZX10R rim w/ABS rotors and used Q2 mounted (might be sold with the bike if it sells before the event).

For those of you coming who are planning on skipping the Celebration of Life at the beach and would like to join us at her house, feel free to PM me asking for her address. There will be two barbecues going, so if you are driving, feel free to bring some food to share. ;)

With regards to parking. I strongly suggest motorcycles should park in the lot along Pescadero Road. The path to the north parking lot is not the most motorcycle-friendly path, and the walk to the beach is as much as crossing the road. If driving (or planning on parking closer), the park rangers did mention that there would be an $8 fee per vehicle, so please have that ready in case they are there to collect.

When we move from the beach to her house, her entire neighborhood has been alerted of the event and will be doing much of the setup while we are gone. There will be directions at the event for how to reach her house from the beach, and I'm sure there will be group rides arranged. Signs should be posted to help you out once you exit Mt. Hermon Road off of Highway 17 in Scotts Valley. Her neighbors know there will most likely be a healthy turnout. Just please be courteous to them and park in a way such as to not block any driveways.

I will not be attending this event, unfortunately. Solomon, PM inbound regarding additional donation, sticker, and raffle tickets.

South Bay Ride? I'll PM for details but if anyone else is heading in from the South Bay let me know, would love to ride out together.

It's in the group rides section. I'll be there

I won't make it, but I will be thinking about him this weekend. He helped me when I had my first track day crash at Laguna Seca.
