Get Fit, Stay Fit, Feel Good - 2026

I feel this so much :zzz Work is really an energy drain for me such that I find it hard to be personally productive towards any goals once I'm home.

I end up hitting something fun on the way home from work, like the climbing gym, so that I don't fall into the trap of "I'm home, time to be comfortable" and I'm not tempted to skip. Weekends I sometimes take my parents for walk at the park by their house and that's fun too. Make your doggies your accountability partners, they'll love it if they are the active kind.
Can you exercise before work?
I don’t like to but my wife works out in the morning in our garage and says it energizes her day.

FYI she runs daycare out of our home so she’s gotta be an energizer bunny all day.
After the last kid leaves at 6:00 she’s spent.

Continuing with the PT and Tai Chi. First session of the day done.

I am actually getting the Tai Chi thing. Limited on things there due to the leg, but I am on to workout 2 and will continue to push on.

I decided not to ride moto so I could squeeze in a pushbike ride in GG Park during a short window without rain and still get the apartment clean before I head to the airport.

What is this world coming to? :laughing

sometimes adulting sucks.

I am debating on changing up my workouts this year. Maybe shifting sleep schedule and going to bed earlier and getting up earlier to hit the treadmill in the morning before work then I can hit the gym in the evening and do a good 2 hours of gym work although if I switch to the spartacus workout that usually gets knocked out in like 45 minutes or so once I can do multiple sets. maybe then I can sub in another cardio session maybe rowing or heavy bag I kind of miss hitting the heavy bag.

For the last 10 years, I've gone to circuits instead of doing sets on one machine at a time. I get in 26-28 sets in 30 minutes because I hop on the next machine/muscle group while the one I just did is recovering. I go to the gym to work out, not socialize or spend 2/3 of the time recovering. It also has the added benefit of keeping my heart rate higher. The only downside is that this time of year, with all of the New Years Resolutions crowding the gym, it's harder to consistently hop from machine to machine. Fortunately, this gym has 3 variations of each machine type, so I might not get on my prefered machine, there are alternatives.

I like using this hand crank machine, it hits just about every muscle in your upper body including your core and your legs as well.
I do 40 second all out followed by 1 minute of coasting then repeat 7-10 times. I'm ripped by the time I'm done.

Hey Bud, what happened to your leg? I kind of did a number of mine this year too. I ended up with two blood clots in my left leg, one of which ended up as a pulmonary embolism. That ended up making me really lazy due to pain and inability and it's been a hard road to get motivated.

Need to reassemble my rower. Nice to have an alternate/low-tech cardio for when I'm pissed off by inopportune updates to the fancy toys

It's good. I need to focus on technique. I could feel it in my shoulders during yoga.
Did you watch a video like I suggested? I also have to be careful with my shoulders.

When you reach a point where you feel bad if you DON’T work out for a couple of days, that’s when you know you’re hooked into exercising regularly.
It’s easy from then on.

Regarding eating, I try to look at certain foods as poisonous- cakes, candy, cookies, ice cream, soda, creamy sauces, red meat, lots of carbs, any fast food, anything processed.
Naturally once in a while you have to live a little.
But ONCE IN A WHILE ONLY.

It is snowing today. There will be no outdoor pedaling and I’m big mad about it.

:x

My coach gave me a rest week last week. My hips started to tighten up and my back got a little sore from the rest. Thankfully that is now over and we are back to some intensity today.

Bodies are weird.

What does a rest week mean for you?

For track and field, it means you go through your normal warm-up then a light workout or a recovery run which could be a 15 minute run at 50 percent.

Sports science has found that after 3 days of inactivity, the body starts reverting back towards it's sedentary state, so you don't want to go more than 3 days without some form of exercise.

Here's the week. The "rest" was Wed-Sat. Tues was the end of a hard micro-block. Sun was a warm-up for today's intensity. I had the option to not ride on Fri & Sat. But I felt a little stiff from the holiday and lifting, so I did easy recovery rides. I did my lifting even lighter to attempt to eliminate that stiffness. It's still not light enough apparently.
