Lake Berryessa Statistics (4/2/23)
The lake level has risen slowly another inch yesterday, to 429.4 feet - 10.6 feet below Glory Hole, a 35.4 foot rise since its low of 394.0 feet on December 1, 2022. Rainfall at the dam has reached 40.97 inches. As a comparison, rainfall at Cobb Mountain was a total of 84.5 inches on 3/30/23 and is slowing down too. March rainfall hit a 10 year record of 12.54 inches. The previous highest March total since 2010 was 12.4 inches in 2011.
After four dry days, the rainfall from 3/27 to 4/2 was only 1.6 inches. The lake rose 1.6 feet during that same time, so we are in the 1 foot rise for 1 inch of rain range. But with only light rain and mostly dry weather predicted for the next several weeks, the lake will definitely NOT hit Glory Hole this year, but hopefully more than 430 feet. That would be a very good result.
Most long-term Lake Berryessa watchers consider that, from a practical viewpoint, 430 feet and above is a full lake. Summer should be an excellent year for fun at the lake. The other good news is that, with the continuing light rains, irrigation water will not be as necessary during this Spring, so the lake won’t start to drop until later.
The Gamble Gauge has reached 87.4% capacity (1,356,430 A-F). Dam output is still at 45 cubic feet per second (CFS), water - the lowest allowed by law and contract. The release is not affecting the lake level in any significant way.
The surface of the lake warmed up a bit to around 55 degrees but is still at around 50 degrees from 70 feet down.
