Gov Brown Raising DMV fees $65 on motorcycles, F#ck him

I was wanting to buy a New Triumph Thruxton 1200 R but its Kind of funny how things have changed.

It used to be if I wanted to buy a new motorcycle one of the first things I would do was check with my insurance company to see what the cost would be to insure.

Now the first thing I do is check what registration fees will be.
I wonder how much business motorcycle/car dealerships have lost since the new fee increases in sales.

Maybe most people are ignoring the increase but I find it hard to pay $250+ a year for a bike that probably would not see that much time on the street just too register.

I cannot imagine what a newer $30k car or a newer ¾ ton truck would cost a year. I certainly know I wont be buying any new cars anytime soon.

So, I probably will not buy the bike, or any newer bike anytime soon either.

Just so you aren’t disappointed I’ll let ya know what my 2013 Tundra Crewmax costs.
Monthly payment 500.00
Last years registration just over 700.00
Still wanna shave Jerry Browns eyebrows off with a riding lawnmower.

Yep.
His number seems way high to me.
I know there is a *Toyota tax* and all but that doesn't add up.

Toyota tax??? should I be looking at my next reg bill for such a thing?
My total bill was 706.00
I do have personalized plates but those are only what 40.00 a year more to maintain them?

As Scott said it was never really an issue, I only had one person change their attitude after I said I was from California. Most people wanted to know more details about my trip and where I was heading. They were probably just making conversation but after all the articles about negative attitudes towards transplants in Oregon, Nevada, Idaho, etc. I was most likely over thinking it.

At least 30% of the people I meet in Central Oregon are from California. Some of the hardcore locals that have seen the area grow get a little grumpy but most people are very friendly. I guess the registration costs of vehicles and some of the other stuff are spreading Californians around the country?

Registration costs for vehicles had absolutely nothing to do with me leaving California. The fact that I could buy a much nicer house for less than half of the one I owned in California had a lot to do with it. That and being somewhere that isn't so crowded. When I moved back to Pleasanton from Folsom in 2016 after being gone for five years I noticed that it seemed a lot more crowded than when I lived there before. Heavy traffic all the time. I now live somewhere that even during rush hour doesn't get much traffic and there is nearly always an alternate route around the busy streets.

Having to pay less to register my vehicles - and being able to do it much faster - is just a pleasant bonus. :cool

But the weather thou! I did 3 years in the PNW (Eugene), had the giant house, lower taxes, etc, but couldn't wait to come back. I'll never live north of the Bay Area again. I love CA...not a fan of the prevailing politics and high taxes, but love it here nonetheless.

Like half the cost of electricity, about half the insurance cost, $0.80/gal lower gas rates, etc.

Let's face it, the privilege to live in California comes at a very high price tag in almost every category except produce.

Just returned from a California trip and the cost of everything is shocking. If I had built up a career that allowed me to live in the Bay Area comfortably I would still be there. Unfortunately for me that isn't the case.

Well ain't this special..........

Just sitting down to pay bills and opened one from DMV. '01 HD w/ about 150k on the clock and 18 years old. What's it worth........... 1k? DMV bill of $146 / yr. Are you shitting me? Will have to call my friend in Medford and see what he is paying for his ZR1. Can't wait to get the bill for the truck, car and other 2 bikes which are worth significantly more. Think I'm going to pass on the '18 Ape.

Don't worry, won't let the door hit me on the way out. Enjoy your weather unless of course you live anywhere in central Cali between Redding and the grapevine.

That plus 16k / yr in property taxes. Fuck this.

Perfect...... just tried to set up an apt w/ DMV to renew my license and get that new one so I can fly commercial. First apt on the peninsula............. fucking April.

We were in the NE part of the state, and my wife did her CDL renewal in Tule Lake. Walk right in, no line, took test, take picture, all in a total of 20 minutes.

But there are limitations to living in Tule Lake, great fishing though!
