Grabbed while riding?

There is a camaign underway to address speeding and agressive driving. He obviously trusted you enough to ride where he did so that would be a compliment I think. And I sure he would rather be yelling at you instead covering you. Keep in mind those are the same folks who have roll ip to the scene, so he probably sees your speeding a bit differently....just sayin.

Glad you had a great day :laughing

Maybe it's catch-and-release season with the fishermen around here?

:laughing

OP, you got lucky not only because you didn't get ticketed. If you take his concern to heart, he just may have been saving your life. Have you seen the number of RIPs we've been discussing here lately?

What kind of conversation does one have at 50mph?

And who takes his throttle/brake hand off their bike to touch a stranger?

This is definitely one of the weirder stories I've heard in a while.

Hi Folks,

I was splitting (faster than I should have been) along 880S in some unusually heavy traffic during lunch time today. As I got out of the traffic I heard some sirens and horns behind me. Presuming an ambulance, I pulled from 1/2 split to #2 lane, and saw in my mirror a CHP bike. I pulled over to the right of #2 lane to let him pass. At this point, I look in my mirror and he isn't behind me anymore. "Good" I think to myself. Though I look ahead of me and don't see anyone... I turn left and see this CHP DIRECTLY next to me on the left :wow . Our legs are touching. He leans over, grabs my arm, and proceeds to yell at me (which I'll admit I did deserve).

Keep in mind while this is all happening, we are travelling, locked together, at 50mph through some reasonably heavy traffic.

I gave him the thumbs up, he released me and proceeded down the road as I exited. I didn't get a ticket, since I was not breaking the law (I was only being dumb).

Anybody had an experience like this before?

Uh, yeah...I had a nightmare like that once.:rolleyes

I was going to quote other posts, but this is the heart-throb. I always thought it would be you to touch a stranger while splitting. I see that I was mislead.

I never get let go. WTF? I am an old, polite, stop-immediately rider. Bummed. I heard from some sag-tail h.d. rider, today, that once we hit the twisties they can't catch us. Uh, yeah, right Valentino Roberts on your tank that will scrap exhaust at 30mph. I was on my S1000RR, btw. :laughing

Maybe he just reached his limit of seeing riders splatted on the slab by semi's. Letting off some steam and maybe saving your life.

OP, the Chippie grabbed you with the throttle hand. Did he have the cruise control on?

One time during a bicycle race, I was riding a tad, uh aggressively, but no contact.

I was at the front of the pack and another rider came along side of me. It was a teammate of another rider who I had slammed the door on during a corner.

He started leaning on me with his shoulder, and I was little surprised but like, I can handle this. I moved over but he kept leaning.

When I was about 5 feet from the curb, now I was like, this is going to stop, so I started leaning back. The rider then started hitting me with his fist.

I had my elbow up in defense, but I also could have slapped his handlebars. His hand was off the bars and if I hit it hard, he would have gone straight to the pavement.

But I made a quick calculation that I have lots of friends in the pack behind us, so I better not crash a rider, even one fucking with me. My hands never left my bars and I felt in control the whole time.

This was all at 25mph on a closed course. Now I will, ahem make casual contact with bike commuters. Light hip pushes or a friendly shoulder tap. I know it will freak out the noobs without affecting their steering. I could never imagine touching another motorcyclist at any speed.

PS after the race, I did walk over to the pushing rider's pit to talk to him. He denied everything.

Great story, and I believe it. When you made this decision I knew it was true, and I knew I was right about you, a long, long time ago. ;)

Marcoose has it spot on from one side...officer grabbing with throttle side hand...yeah, right. Or you could look at it from the OP's side,

I gave him the thumbs up, he released me and...

I guess you could release your hand and give him a thumbs up. It is possible. But Marcoose trumps my doubt.

Next time you want to tell a story, ask Feanor for some fact-checking help.

Regardless of your *aggressive nature, this is a situation of at worst obese cyclists on heavy steel bikes moving less than 30mph. The risk of death in a crash is significantly less than say on 101 with vehicles >2 tons >60mph.

*I guess it's great to hear another anecdote of you being a badass.

I've hit the pavement several times in a race. Wearing a vented half-shell and lycra, I wasn't hurt beyond bruising and cuts.

Yup. I love Barf if not for the community and information itself, for the pure entertainment.:Popcorn

Though to be honest, I was hoping to hear someone had grabbed your butt while riding.

i can see letting you go no ticket. but grabbing your arm was very dumb.

sure moto cops are better riders than any of us. but if he spooked you.. then what????

(đź’€).

Yup. This sounds like an exercise in creative writing. Still, it has made for an entertaining thread.

The CHP was being kind - he could always have issued a ticket for reckless driving.

So a guy who brings a machine gun to a preschool is being kind by brandishing it instead of shooting people?

Your logic is fucked.
