"whatever the fuck that means"?

so i looked it up because i was curious.

from greenpeace website;
"The cloud—the place where our e-mails, pictures and music are stored and shared—is growing fast.

The engines that drive the cloud are data centres. Some data centres are so big they can be seen from space. They use a huge amount of electricity – the equivalent of almost 250,000 homes.

Right now, companies like Apple, Microsoft and Amazon power the cloud with coal, which means more air pollution and more climate changing emissions.

It doesn't have to be this way. Together we can push IT leaders toward clean, green, renewable energy sources. The more we upload our photos and files to the cloud, the more important it is to make sure it’s powered with renewable energy."

so, in a nutshell, it makes sense. no?

They should power it all with friendship and rainbows.

well, realistically, the moment something says "greenpeace" all you haters come out of the woodwork with your baggage.

me? I don't really give a shit if it was greenpeace, rush limbaugh, kenney chesney, robert fisk, etc. to me, if something makes sense and appeals to my sense of reason and logic then i tend to agree.

with that being said, if in fact these companies are using coal power to provide energy to our beloved "cloud" why not push them into using sustainable energy? we are trying to proceed into the future, are we not? for you old guys that talk about what the smog was like in the 70's here in cali, you say it's much much better now, right? and why is that? i'm sure it wasn't because continued to let things roll in the direction that they were going.

I'm 100% on board with clean energy ... nuclear. However, these envirotards don't want THAT either. They want us to generate power using the methane from unicorn farts and fairy dust.

they already are moving to hippie energy

Apple officials said they were puzzled by the demonstration. Spokeswoman Kristin Huguet saying an Apple data center in North Carolina -- called out by a Greenpeace social-media campaign as being on a "dirty" energy grid -- is on pace to draw 60 percent of its power from a solar farm and fuel cells, with a pending facility in Oregon set to be powered by 100 percent renewable sources.

OP tell your brother in law to have a bunch of employees fire up a huge ass grill (charcoal of course) and host a ginormous pig roast right next to the stinky dome.

gotta love this too:
The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office got involved when two women ages 21 and 22 barricaded themselves inside the pod. Sgt. Jose Cardoza summoned the help of firefighters to saw through a door and detain the occupants, who were arrested on suspicion of trespassing -- the dome was on a company-owned lot -- and resisting arrest.
Cardoza said while searching the pod they found four large vehicle or machine batteries and are exploring whether they constitute a violation of hazardous materials ordinances.

Fack, now these guys are probably going to go after Barf next! Budman beware!!!

screw those GreenPeas people and their scrawny naked chicks covered with lettuce!
How dare they stay between my cheesy puffs and my computer connected to the cloud!

How *dare* those people protest *anything*? On top of all it's a company I even use!!! :mad

If you want data centers to go green, you have to show that the alternative energy sources reduce the overall bottom line.

I've worked with PG&E, Intel and Leibert on creating energy efficient data centers ten years ago.

The key is having multiple power sources and automate the use of the most efficient source for conditions.
