Hd livewire

I get the feeling it's going to be quite expensive. I see very few electric motorcycles around.

Well they’re trading on a very well recognized brand name. So “cheap” is definitely not going to be a word anyone uses to describe it. If it winds up costing what I think it’s going to cost (low to mid 20s), it’ll still bring in some deep pocketed buyers, but they have to deliver a product with a much better range than the prototypes they had four years ago.

I’ll just leave this here...

Electrifying doesn't sound good, it makes me think about being electrocuted. =P

Pricing and specs will be shown at this year's CES show in Vegas according to an HD salesman that I have spoken with. For pricing he is about as knowledgeable as anyone else and only certain dealers will have to setup for EV charging and service. So there is a big investment for the dealership itself to sell the bike.

Makes sense. CES is quickly becoming the launchpad for all new EVs in the car world. So it’s only fitting that a bike goes there too.

I’m reallllllly hoping the MSRP is not too crazy. A salesman I talked to last month seems to think they’ll come in at $15k. Which will be great. Great for HD. And great for us. I’m interested in the bike if the range got a lot better than where they were 4 years ago when it was just “project” Livewire. But if it’s in the mid 20s, that’ll turn a lot of people away, myself included.

I’ve also heard that only certain dealers will be Livewire dealers. I believe an even smaller amount of them will be the “pilot” dealers and will have things set up in the few months to generate buzz and get some preorders on the books.

I wonder what the charging system is like. Hopefully they have Level 3. If they at least have level 2 chargers I can charge at their dealerships =P

Yep, that's definitely a level "3" CCS DCFC port which means you can probably get 80% charge in 10 minutes. Sweet!

Yeah I got $900 california clean air rebate when I bought my Empulse.

Wow you're right it does have level 3 charging! The CCS port is clearly visible on that website! If they can price it lower than the Energica HD might have a winner!

Here's something interesting from the website:
Do I need special charging equipment to own a LiveWire™ motorcycle?
No you do not…the LiveWire™ motorcycle has an on-board Level 1 charger and can be charged through most standard household outlets. It’s also fast charge capable.

So it's kind of a weird charging setup they have on the bike. That I suppose is ok. There is an onboard level 1 charger, so it'll charge at something like 1.5kwh maybe... REALLY SLOW. But it has DC Fastcharge capability (level 3). So if you need a charge on the road you can charge super fast at a Fast Charger.

So if your charging at home it would probably take like 10+ hours, I wouldn't even bother charging from a normal charging station it's so slow if you can't get Level 2 speeds.

Another interesting thing from the website:
THE TECHNOLOGY YOU EXPECT IS ALL HERE.
Seven different riding modes let you dial in your ride. Music and GPS are controlled by a state-of-the-art touchscreen infotainment system that’s Bluetooth enabled. The EV powertrain means there is little service required.

We'll just have to see when it comes out. Looks exciting :)

How much power will the MP3 player take to get that potato, potato sound track to deafen that cage next to you at a light?

Personally I'd rather that ripping silk sound of a Rolls Royce 12 banger, rattling their windows.

Any tax discounts to counter the new registration fees/personal tax for such an expensive machine?

Marketing ????

I’m sad

I was hoping 25k or even 20k but a zero would worth it compared to this. I was hoping HD would have made something affordable

"The battery powered LiveWire will do 0-60 mph in just over 3 seconds, go 110 miles on a charge"

Fast acceleration - Check :teeth
Range - 110 - City or Highway? Aerodynamics on motorcycles are horrid, so this is key,

DC Fast Charging - Check :teeth
Price - this is tough, but for EV motorcycle, this will probably be a issue for a while.

Announcement
"I'm Buying This"
Video
"Time to sell something and make room"
30k Price Tag
"Nevermind"

I just bought a 2019 Street Glide Special for 26 something OTD... accessories nudge me closer to 30k but that's a lot more machine than what I get with the livewire

Yeah it looks great minus the price tag!

If it was closer to 20K, I would be placing a deposit right now.

Yikes, $30k? Missed the mark but I still want one.

This is an interesting tidbit from the FAQ section on the harley website:
  • Level 1 (standard household outlet): 13 miles range per hour of charged.
  • Level 2: LiveWire can be connected to a Level 2 charge unit but will be charged at the Level 1 rate.
  • Level 3 (DC Fast Charge): 192 miles range per hour charged.

Level 2 charges at Level 1 rate. Odd - but I'm happy they do have Level 3 capability. With 192mi/hour charge rate, this thing must charge incredibly fast.

The HD Connect feature will have a subscription cost (Seems like OnStar) after the first year:
H-D™ Connect will be free for the first year. After that, there will be a subscription fee.

One thing to consider, while not a big enough reason in my opinion - is the lack of maintenance of an electric vehicle. No gas to buy (which isn't much on a MC anyway), no oil to change, less wear on the brakes (regen breaking), etc.

I don't think that constitutes the price, especially on a gen 1 item which.. from Harley could be negative. Especially if sales suck and they pull it.

Additionally, servicing a motorcycle at Harley is never cheap. I doubt this will be any different.

$30k?!? Thirty fucking thousand? Wow. Just wow.

$15k or maybe even high teens could have really given the whole electric bike thing quite a shot in the arm as they would have sold quite a few of them. Maybe even one to me. But this kind of money is going for the demographic of the young techbro who buys a Panigale S. And I don’t think too many of those will be swayed because the Ducati looks and sounds cooler.

I’d have been on board if it was under twenty large. But I’ve already got a $30k Harley. Goes twice as far on a tank of gas. Has Bluetooth and all that. And actually can carry a passenger and a lot of stuff too.

I know early adopters pay a price. The first DVD players were like over $1k when they came out. But that was a format that was so much better than anything else out there. So what do you get for being an early adopter to an electric bike like this? Other than not needing gasoline (but now being dependent on another “fuel” of sorts), what will this do better than another motorcycle?
